San Jose State Sweeps CSUB In Saturday Softball Action

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-San Jose State (6-4) swept a softball doubleheader from CSUB (0-9) Feb. 20 at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.

The Spartans took the opener 6-2. San Jose State led 2-0 in the bottom of the third before Jazmine Lee (Fr., Garden Grove, Calif., Los Alamitos HS) and Amy Ricciardi (Fr., Chino Hills, Calif., Ayala HS) posted back-to-back RBI's to tie the score. The Spartans scored four runs in the top of the sixth to secure the victory. Three different San Jose State players drove in runs in the inning with the fourth tally coming via a wild pitch.

Jamie Miller (Sr., Livermore, Calif., Ohlone College), Ryane Petersen (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Fresno State), and Stefanie Frei (Sr., Valencia, Calif., Canyon HS) each posted two hits for the Roadrunners. The teams combined to strand 20 baserunners in the contest.

San Jose State won the nightcap 8-0. With the Spartans leading 1-0 in the bottom the sixth, the Roadrunners threatened. With one out, Karissa Veiga (Fr., Hemet HS) reached on a bunt single. Petersen singled up the middle to move Vegia second. Both players moved up a base on a Alex Moina wild pitch. Molina got Lee to pop up to first and Ricciard to pop out to end the threat.

The Spartans scored seven runs in the top of the eight to make it the final 8-0. The seven-run rally was highlighted by an Amanda Schatz two-run home run. Molina tossed a three-hitter for San Jose State, retiring 13 in a row at one point.

The Roadrunners return to action Feb. 25-26 in Sacaramento at the PCSC Crossover Tournament.
