LA JOLLA, Calif. — The CSUB water polo team split its final two games to finish 14th at the UCSD Triton Invitational Sunday in La Jolla. The Roadrunners picked up their first win of the weekend Sunday morning with a 13–9 victory over Marist before falling to WWPA rival Santa Clara by a 13–9 count in the afternoon.
CSUB got five goals Sunday from sophomore two–meter player Jessica Browning (Lake Forest/El Toro HS) and freshman driver Taylor Hanson (Modesto/Johansen HS), including four each in the win over Marist. Sophomore Shannon McKenzie (Rancho Cucamonga HS) added three goals and five assists to help ease the 'Runners past the Red Foxes.
Freshman Bianca Adams (Ontario/St. Lucy's Priory) capped a strong scoring weekend with four goals of her own to lead the 'Runners versus Santa Clara.
“I thought we played pretty well and scored enough goals against Marist, but it was disappointing to go 0–2 in conference this weekend,” said CSUB Head Coach Jason Gall. “We're a young team and we have some things to work on but we're going to get better.”
CSUB (3–7 overall) returns to action next weekend when it heads to the San Fernando Valley to take part in the Cal State Northridge mini tournament Feb. 19. The 'Runners will face CSUN and Occidental College at the event.
