FRESNO, Calif.-
Fresno State (8-3) made 11 first half
three-point field goals as the Bulldogs defeated CSU Bakersfield (3-10) 88-59
Thursday night at the Save
Mart Center.
The Bulldogs shot 50% from three-point range in the first
half (11-of-22) to take a 53-28 lead into halftime. Fresno State
connected on 42.9% of long range shots (15-of-35) for the game. Rosie Moult
scored all 16 of her points in the first half to lead the Bulldogs.
"Fresno is a good three-point shooting team," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "They were able to make three's after we were broken down on defense."
Amber Williams (Jr., Fontana,
Calif., Etiwanda HS) inched
closer to 1,000 career points as she had a game high 21 to bring her career
tally to 982. Lauren Carter (R-Jr., Moorpark,
Calif., Moorpark HS) paced CSUB
by scoring 13 points. Tika Smith (R-Jr., Sweetwater, Texas, Sweetwater HS), who
joined the Roadrunners this week from the CSUB volleyball team, scored 12
points and grabbed eight rebounds. It was Smith's first basketball game since
her junior year of high school.
"I thought we got pushed around a little bit and we didn't respond well to (Fresno State's) aggressive play," McCall said. "Tika gave us some great minutes. We knew she could rebound, but we were really happy with her ability to score. We are looking forward to her progression as we move forward."
The Roadrunners return to the floor next Tuesday at Sacramento State for a 7:05 p.m. start.
