McGee's Double?Double Helps 'Runners Top Seattle, 81?65

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSUB increased its win streak to four as it defeated fellow–independent Seattle University, 81–65, in NCAA Division I women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Icardo Center.

Sophomore guard Amber Williams (Fontana, Calif./Etiwanda HS) took the game into her own hands through the first five minutes as she scored eight of the Roadrunners' opening 13 points. Getting help from a pair of good free throws from junior guard Kristine Herman (San Ramon, Calif./Florida Gulf Coast), the 'Runners used an 11–2 run to jump out to an early lead.

CSUB (13–9) captured its first double–digit lead of the game midway through the half as it held Seattle (5–12) scoreless for a little more than three minutes. Seattle continued to struggle from the floor, shooting 10–36 (27.8%) from the field in the first. Senior guard Britney McGee (Bakersfield, Calif./Univ. of Albany) completed a three–point play in the final minute to give CSUB its largest lead of the half at 19 points, however, Seattle's Ashley Ward hit a jumper to cut the Roadrunners lead to 17 heading into the break (44–27).

Seattle's shooting trouble continued through the second half as the Redhawks missed six of their first 11 attempts to begin the period. The 'Runners meanwhile hit three from behind the arc to increase their double–digit lead to 24.

CSUB would own a 25–point lead two times through the first 10 minutes of the final half, however, Seattle managed to cut the deficit down to as many as 13 through the final minutes.

Despite being outscored in the second half, the 'Runners managed to hang on down the stretch for the win, securing an 81–65 decision.

Five Redhawks finished the game in double–figure scoring while four 'Runners did the same. Williams led the way with her fifth 20–plus point performance of the season (20 points) while McGee recorded her first double–double in a Roadrunner uniform (18 points, 10 rebounds).  Herman (13 points) and freshman guard Tyonna Outland (Compton, Calif./Lynwood HS) (12 points) were the other Roadrunners in double–figures.

CSUB will take its four–game winning streak on the road next as the Roadrunners head to Riverside, Calif. on January 22 to take on UC Riverside. Tip–off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
