Torres' Last Second Goal Leads Roadrunners to Second?Consecutive Third Place WWPA Finish

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Sophomore Kaitlin Torres scored with five seconds remaining in the consolation finals of the WWPA Championship Tournament Sunday at the Hillman Aquatics Center to lift the CSU Bakersfield water polo team to an 8–7 victory over the No. 6 seed Colorado State Rams. The win gave the Roadrunners (18–20) their second–consecutive third–place finish at the WWPA Championships.

Torres joined senior Brittany Berry and senior Becky Seelos with a pair of goals on the afternoon but it was her final tally that pushed CSUB past the Rams who had already upset the No. 3 seeded Cal State East Bay Pioneers earlier in the tournament. Senior Alyson Moss and freshman Jessica Browning each scored on goal and freshman Megan Pezzolla had seven blocks in goal.

With just 49 seconds remaining, Colorado State's Kallie Berry, the younger sister of Brittany Berry, scored to tie the game at 7–7. With the crowd on its feet, Torres' shot found its way past the Ram's goalkeeper, breaking the tie. A last second effort from Colorado State came up short and CSUB repeated its highest conference placing in program history.

Moss was named to the all–tournament first team and Torres garnered second–team honors.

This concludes the Roadrunners' 2010 season.
