Long Beach State Avoids Sweep From No. 18 Water Polo

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State water polo team avoided a season sweep by the No. 18 Roadrunners Saturday with a 7-4 decision on Senior Day. The 49ers dropped the first two meeting to the 'Runners earlier in the season. CSUB (16-19) got a pair of goals from senior Alyson Moss and single strikes from sophomore Kaitlin Torres and freshman Jessica Browning.

Freshman goalkeeper Megan Pezzolla had five blocks. Senior C.J. Longeuay, freshman Brittani Marquez and Browning each drew two ejections for the Roadrunners who found themselves down early to start the game, 3-0. CSUB battled back with a pair of goals in the second quarter to trail 4-2 at the break. But after being shutout in the third quarter, the Roadrunners' final two goals in the fourth quarter, both coming from Moss, was not enough to overcome the 49ers lead.

"(Long Beach State) was just able to maintain their lead today," said Gall. "We took a lot of shots, they just didn't go. We need to get focused for the conference tournament in two weeks."

The Roadrunners will take two weeks to prepare for the WWPA Championship Tournament which begins on Friday, Apr. 30, at the Hillman Aquatic Center on the CSUB campus.
