DAVIS, Calif. - The CSUB water polo team fell to the No. 2 ranked Stanford Cardinal, 17-1, Sunday in the second day of the UC Davis Shootout. Sophomore Kaitlin Torres tallied the lone Roadrunner goal in the third quarter.
CSUB (8-12 overall, 4-1 WWPA) was shutout during the first half as Stanford jumped to a 9-0 halftime lead. Freshman Megan Pezzolla had six blocks in the first half while sophomore Megan Wetherbee played the second half and finished with five blocks. Senior Alyson Moss had three steals and freshman Sam Shead tallied two swipes. Torres and senior C.J. Longeuay each had a field block. Offensively, freshman Jessica Browning drew two ejections.
"We knew we were going to play a top level team today," said Head Coach Jason Gall. "Our focus now is to get ready for LMU next Friday in an important conference game at their place."
CSUB has a full slate of games scheduled for next weekend beginning with a Friday road contest at WWPA leader Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. Over the weekend dates, the Roadrunners will take part in the San Diego State Aztec tournament. The 'Runners will play Princeton (9:15 a.m.) and Marist (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday followed by Wagner (10:30 a.m.) and host San Diego State (4:45 p.m.) on Sunday.
