LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 18 ranked CSUB water polo team dropped a pair of contests at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational and placed eighth in the two–day 16–team advancement tournament. The Roadrunners (4–7 overall) lost to the No. 12 Cal State Northridge Matadors, 14–6, and then dropped the seventh place game to No. 15 UC Davis, 14–3.

Against No. 12 Cal State Northridge, the 'Runners were never quite able to get on track. The team missed three five-meter shots and were outscored 12-2 through the first three quarters.

"We just wern't able to capitalize on some opportunities today," said Head Coach Jason Gall. "They were just a little faster than us this morning but we are looking forward to playing them this weekend at our pool."

Sophomore Malia Pahoa scored twice while senior Becky Seelos, sophomore Kaitlin Torres and fresheman Brittani Marquez and Jessica Browning each tallied one. In goal, freshman Megan Pezzolla had three blocks and was relieved by sophomore Megan Wetherbee who had four.

Against the Aggies, CSUB fell behind early and faced a five-goal defecit at the break, 6–1. Things didn't get better in the second half as UC Davis outscored the 'Runners 8–2 to close out the game. Senior Alyson Moss scored a goal along with Torres and Seelos. Pezzolla and Wetherbee each had four blocks in net. Seelos had a good game offensively, drawing four ejections.

"We played four quality teams this weekend," Gall said. "I think we are going to be much better in the long run by going 1–3 against some very good competition. We got a lot of people some experience this weekend and I think this was a great measure of where we are at nationally."

CSUB hosts the Roadrunner Invitational beginning on Friday, Feb. 12. The three-day invitational will feature 21 games with the 'Runners taking to the pool twice each day.
