BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Roadrunner men's swim team hosts a pair of the nation's top teams this week in its final competition before the Conference USA Championships Feb. 24-27 in Houston. On Thursday, No. 4 Cal comes to town, followed by No. 2 Stanford on Friday. Both dual meets begin at 1 p.m. at the Hillman Aquatics Center. Friday's competition also marks the last home meet for CSUB seniors Adam Pawlowski and Malcolm Reid.
Pawlowski is a four-year member of the CSUB swim team, competing in the distance free events. To date, his career best times in a Roadrunner uniform are 1:46.70 in the 200 free, 4:37.32 in the 500 free, 9:53.18 in the 1,000 free and 16:28.15 in the 1,650 free.
“We've had a lot of transfers come through this program so it's cool that Adam has completed a full four years here,” said Head Coach Chris Hansen. “He is having one of his best years and will leave here on a fast note.”
Reid joined the Roadrunners in 2008 as a transfer from Long Beach City College and has quickly become a star sprinter for CSUB. He broke into the CSUB record book at the C-USA Championships last spring with a 44.86 in the 100 free, the fourth fastest time in school history. This season he holds the team's top 50 free (20.99) and 100 free (45.52) times and will likely lower those at this year's conference meet.
“Malcolm came to us as a IM/fly swimmer and will leave as one of the fastest sprinters in school history,” said Hansen. “He will have a chance to go after some school records at C-USA's.”
