?Runners Fall to No. 7 UC Davis; Rebound to Beat Monterey Bay


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ?
On day two of the Roadrunner Invitational, the No. 17 ranked ?Runners dropped a contest to No. 7 UC Davis, 7-6, but rebounded to beat WWPA rival Cal State Monterey Bay, 18-13, Sunday at the Hillman Aquatics Center. CSUB is now 9-4 this year.

The most anticipated game of the invitational matched the Aggies and the Roadrunners in the second contest of the day. Neither team seemed to be able to pull away as the game was tied at four different points in the first three quarters. The ?Runners grabbed their lone lead of the game with 1:02 remaining in the first half as Kaitlin Torres scored, giving CSUB a 3-2 lead.

But CSUB's top offensive threat Amanda Ortiz was ejected with four minutes to go in the third as she was whistled for her third ejection and picked up an additional penalty resulting in a goal for the Aggies.

Down 7-5 with under a minute to play, Petra Koudelkova scored to make it a one point game. After a defensive stand, the ?Runners got the ball back with eight seconds but were unable to find the back of the net. Alyson Moss had two goals to lead the Roadrunners offensively.

In the second game, Ortiz rebounded from her earlier shortend contest to score four goals at the ?Runners never trailed against the Otters. Koudelkova added three goals as the ?Runners jumped out to an 8-4 halftime lead. CSUB would never trail as the won and improved to 3-0 in WWPA action.

The ?Runners will be able to take advantage of a little bit of a break in their schedule as they will not compete again until March 7 aat the UC Davis Invitational. They are scheduled to play Sonoma State, UC Davis, Santa Clara and Stanford at the two-day event in Davis, Calif.
