RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside took the rubber match from the
CSUB volleyball team Saturday night, handing the Roadrunners a 25-21, 22-25,
26-24, 25-19 loss at the Student Rec Center.
Senior
setter Barbie Unfried (Bakersfield HS) led CSUB with 44 assists, 10 digs and five blocks. Sophomore
outside hitter Lindy DeGeare (Stockdale HS) led the Roadrunner attack force with 18
kills and three aces. Sophomore middle blocker Alysia Baker (Vista/Tri-City
Christian) chipped in 10
kills, two aces and five blocks.
The
match turned at the end of the third set, when CSUB couldn't hold a 23-22 lead.
A Kelsy Mills kill saved
one set point at 24-23, but UCR scored the next two points to take control of
the match.
The
fourth set stayed close until late, when Highlander blockers Dominique Cowling
and Shannon Moyneur got Morgan Pettway to break a 17-17 tie. UCR out-scored the
Roadrunners 8-2 to end the match.
The
Roadrunners will take a week off before heading to San Diego for a rematch at
San Diego State on Sunday, Nov. 15. CSUB returns home to host Fresno State Nov.
