BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Following a two-goal, one-assist output in the Roadrunners' 3-0 win over Denver Sunday, Robbie Gouk was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The junior from Renton, Wash., is the first CSUB men's soccer player to earn the honor this season.
Gouk's performance was the highest single-match point total (five) for a Roadrunner since making the move to Division I in 2007. The five points also tied a 2009 single-match MPSF high. However, perhaps most impressive was that he tallied all five points within a 5:20 span, effectively putting the match in the books by the 22nd minute. He scored on a pair of headers at the 16-minute mark and the 19:32 mark, then earned an assist on Omar Heredia's goal at the 21:20 mark.
Gouk now leads all players in the MPSF with three game-winning goals. He also ranks in a tie for fourth in goals (six) and goals per match (0.43), and in a tie for sixth in points (13) and points per match (0.93).
Sunday's win over Denver moved the Roadrunners to 8-6-2 overall and an even 3-3-0 in the MPSF. With just one match remaining, they also secured at least a .500 record for the season, the first time they have achieved that feat since transitioning to Division I.
Bakersfield concludes the 2009 season Sunday, traveling to MPSF opponent Seattle for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
