Men?s Swimming Rolls Against UoP, 152-104

STOCKTON, Calif. — The CSUB men's swim team won all but two events Saturday against the University of Pacific, claiming a 152-104 win against the Tigers for its first dual victory of the season.

Bakersfield's 200 medley relay team of Luka Leskur, Chad McCkenzie, Matt Parsonage and Malcolm Reid, kicked the day off with a 1:36.04 first-place finish. The Roadrunners' “B” team of  Michael Schwartz, Jake Priest, Dan Wickensheimer and Kevin Miller placed second in 1:39.02, followed by Pacific's “A” team in 1:39.09. The win was just the first of many for CSUB, which had four swimmers win multiple events.

The Roadrunners dominated the sprint free events, taking the top three spots in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free. Freshman Kevin Miller won the 50 free in 21.65, followed by Parsonage (21.88) and Mitch Wurm (22.15). In the 100 free, Mark Silvius took first in 47.70, Miller was second in 48.55 and Reid was third in 49.01. Keenan Natyzak won the 200 free in 1:42.64, while Vance Elmore (1:47.23) and Silvius (1:47.70) followed closley in second and third.

Bakersfield also the top three spots in the 100 breast, led by Jay Jones in 1:56.79. Priest placed second in 1:58.14 and Natyzak was third in 1:59.74.

McKenzie and Leskur finished the day with three first-place finishes each. ALong with the 200 medley relay, McKenzie claimed the 200 breast in 2:10.68 and the 200 IM in 1:55.94. Leskur, also a member of the 200 medley relay team, win the 100 back in 52.40 and the 200 back in 1:54.88.

Other first place finishes included Natyzak's 4:40.63 in the 500 free and Parsonage's 51.53 time in the 100 fly. Adam Pawlowski also turned in a season-best time of 10:07.27 in the 1000 free, good for third place.

“Keenan was a stud today and Kevin swam better than anyone could have expected,” said Head Coach Chris Hansen. “We are excited to have beaten Pacific for a second straight year and once again the props goes to our new class, which is taking over and helping us win.”

The Roadrunners return to training until Nov. 19-21 when they head to Long Beach for the Toshiba Classic.
