BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - CSUB will recognize the 20th
anniversary of the 1989 NCAA Championship volleyball team Saturday afternoon
when the Roadrunners host San Diego State at 2 p.m. in the Icardo Center.
The
Roadrunners are expecting approximately 50 former players and coaches,
including many members of Dave Rubio's championship team from the magical 1989
season. Players from that team will be recognized in a special ceremony between
the second and third sets.
The
2009 Roadrunners have proven a worthy successor to the former champions.
Playing their final season of transition before reaching full NCAA Division I
status next season, the 2009 Roadrunners enter the weekend as the top ranked
team among NCAA Division I Independent members.
In
addition to the celebration of the 1989 team, current Roadrunner players and
coaches will stay after the match to host a special autograph session for fans.
