SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. ? Senior Jeremy Doyle earned the Dr. Northrup Award (Most Outstanding Wrestler) and six total CSUB wrestlers claimed individual championships Saturday at the 32nd Annual California Collegiates hosted by San Francisco State.
Doyle dominated the 149 bracket, with a 16-0 technical fall, an 8-0 major decision, a pair of five-point decisions and a pin over Elwin Warsh of Cal Poly in the championship bout.
Also claiming individual titles were junior Brandon Zoetewey (125) who beat fellow Roadrunner Zack Bigboy 6-1 in the title match, redshirt freshman Elijah Nacita (141), senior Daniel Atondo (165), junior Jason Points (174) and redshirt freshman Riley Orozco (184).
Nacita turned in big scores on his way to the title match, with a pair of technical fall wins and two major decisions. He would claim the championship bout in a 5-4 decision over Cal State Fullerton's Adin Duenes.
In addition to the first place finishes, junior Thomas Kimbrell finished second in the 133 division, falling in the championships match to Boise State's Andrew Hochstrasser. In the 157 division, freshman Joey Granata placed second, while at 197, Andrew Stramler and Ernesto Ancona finished second and third, respectively.
The ?Runners break from competition for a week, then head south to Cal State Fullerton for a Pac-10 dual on Sunday. CSUB will also compete in a neutral dual match with non-conference opponent Menlo College following the noon start against Fullerton.
