FRESNO, Calif. ? The No. 1 ranked Fresno Pacific University volleyball team remained unbeaten with a 30?22, 26?30, 30?19, 30?23 win over CSUB at the FPU Special Events Center Tuesday night.
Junior outside hitter Sarah Norman led all players with 19 kills for CSUB (3?8 overall). Senior middle blocker Melissa Myers added 11 kills and three blocks. Junior libero Mystie McNaughton chipped in a match?high 20 digs.
Junior outside hitter Brittany Pierce led three Sunbirds (10?0) in double figures with 17 kills. Fabiana Leomil added 13 kills and a .368 attack percentage as FPU hit .315 on the night.
“Fresno always has a solid team, and this year is no exception,” said CSUB head Coach John Price after the match. “But I was very disappointed with our effort. We have the talent to be a very good team, but we're not going to win a lot of matches with the effort we gave tonight.
“We're playing three tough NCAA Division I opponents this weekend with a combined record of 21?6. We're going to need to step our effort level up a lot if we hope to be competitive.”
Bakersfield returns to action at the Four Points University Plaza Arizona Invitational in Tucson this weekend. The 'Runners will face host Arizona (7?2) and Davidson College (5?3) Friday before meeting UC Irvine (9?1) Saturday.
