SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Cal State Bakersfield's No. 18-ranked water polo team continued its winning ways by earning its ninth straight victory by a 14-9 margin over Cal State San Bernardino at the Coyote Aquatic Center on Sunday.
The nine-game win streak equals the Roadrunners' longest win streak in school history, which was set just last season. Bakersfield will have a chance to break its school record for consecutive on Saturday when the Roadrunners head to the Pioneer Shootout In Hayward against Mercyhurst and Grove City.
Bakersfield jumped out to a quick lead at 4-1 after the first period and 7-3 at the half, but San Bernardino responded by outscoring the Roadrunners 4-2 in the third period to make the score 9-7 with one period to go.
But Bakersfield scored three goals in a row to up the lead to 12-7 and eased to the win.
Amanda Ortiz, Bori Toth and Paola Medina each scored three goals for the Roadrunners while Yulia Blinovskaya scored twice. San Bernardino was led by Freyja Berg with four goals.
