REDLANDS, Calif. — No. 18 Cal State Bakersfield won two more matches to improve its win streak to eight with victories over Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands on Saturday in Redlands, Calif.
The Roadrunners opened with an easy 15-6 win over Pomona-Pitzer before a hard-fought 11-10 win over host Redlands.
The wins improved Bakersfield's win streak to eight, which is the second-longest win streak in school history. The school record sits at nine, which was set last season. The Roadrunners will shoot to tie that school record ninth win in a row on Sunday at Cal State San Bernardino.
Bakersfield had no problems with Pomona-Pitzer, leading 4-2 after one period and 7-3 at the half. A five-goal third period blew open the match further for the easy win. Yulia Blinovskaya led the Roadrunners with five goals while Amanda Ortiz scored three.
The Redlands final score was closer than it really was in the first half. Bakersfield jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead at the half and appeared ready to cruise to the win, but Redlands fought back with five goals apiece in the third and fourth quarters to make the match very close in the end.
Redlands' Alie Howser nearly singlehandedly brought her team back with eight second-half goals. Blinovskaya led the Roadrunners with four goals and Ortiz had three.
Bakersfield returns for what it hopes is its school-record tying ninth win on Sunday at Cal State San Bernardino.
