LAS VEGAS ? CSUB men's swimming
senior Alexy Belyy clocked a 4:36.67 time in the preliminary heat of
the 500 yard freestyle, then went on to claim a 4:31.50, first place
time in the “A” final heat on the opening day of the 22nd
Annual UNLV Winter Invitational Saturday.
Belyy's first-place finish gives the senior two straight years of wins in the event.
Fellow senior Justin Burdine and junior
Filip Zemier used strong preliminary heat times to earn entry into
the “B” final heat in the 50 yard freestyle. Burdine raced to a
21.41 third place finish in the finals while Zemier placed sixth in a
time of 21.64.
In the 200 yard individual medley
finals, junior Sampo Sissala earned a 1:56.71 eighth place finish in
the “A” final heat.
The combined efforts of Zemier,
Burdine, Rene Hjorth and Sissala led to a 1:24.75 time in the 200
yard freestyle relay, good for sixth best out of 31 squads.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the
Roadrunners' “A” squad earned a 3:24.75 fifth place finish while the “B” squad placed 13th in a time of 3:33.19.
"We were solid from our sprints, to the middle distances and longer distances," said CSUB Head Coach Morgan Bailey. "Our relay teams are performing exceptionally well for this time of year and overall we turned in a well-rounded performance."
Competition continues all day Sunday
with butterfly and backstroke preliminary heats in the morning and a
number of butterfly, freestyle and backstroke finals in the evening
session.
