RADFORD, Va. ? For a second straight night the defense of CSUB's men's soccer team nearly stood strong for 90 minutes, but a late goal by Radford University resulted in a 1-0 loss Thursday at Cupp Stadium.

Roadrunner goalkeeper Steve Trojanowski made five saves on 12 Highlander shots, keeping the home team at bay for the majority of the game.

Radford, now 4-5-0 overall after snapping a three-game losing streak, broke through in the 78th minute of play with a goal by Taylor Jenkins, his first of the season.

Just 40 seconds earlier, CSUB's Robbie Gouk had a spectacular shot saved by Highlanders' keeper Zach Roszel. Radford countered as Joseph Sansbury reached the endline and passed it to Jenkins at the top of the box. Jenkins rushed onto the ball and fired his shot into the lower right corner of the net.

The ?Runners had a trio of shot opportunities in the the final 10 minutes of play, but all three sailed wide.

“We didn't play as well tonight as we did yesterday,” said CSUB Head Coach Simon Tobin, “but even still, either team could have won it.”

In an effort to rest some of its normal starters, CSUB started the game with six players players who had not seen the field Wednesday against Ohio State. The group held together well defensively in the first half, but also did little to generate any offense with just three shots in the opening period.

Both the Roadrunners and Highlanders took seven shots in the second half, with just the one by Radford finding the back of the net.

The shutout loss was Bakersfield's fifth straight, dropping its season record to 2-8-3.

Bakersfield will be in the hunt for a win Saturday, concluding its long seven-game roadtrip against Longwood University in Farmville, Va., at 2:00 p.m. PST.
