Martin Drafted By Major League Soccer's Chivas USA

CARSON, Calif. — Former Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer standout Lyle Martin was selected recently by Chivas USA in the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft.

Martin was picked with Chivas USA's fifth selection in the draft and 31st overall.

"Our work paid off," said Chivas USA Head Coach Preki on the team's official Web site. "We have been tracking all of these players for some time, and several of them participated in a combine we held at The Home Depot Center in December. I'm pleased with all five picks, and we look forward to their contributions to Chivas USA as we prepare for our season opener on April 7."

Martin finished his Cal State Bakersifeld career by winning the 2006 California Collegiate Athletic Association goal-scoring title with 17 goals, which also ties for the second-most single-season goals in Bakersfield history. He also became just the fourth Roadrunner to amass 40 points in a season after he finished 2006 with 17 goals and six assists. Martin ranks in a tie for No. 3 with Ayman Hamid (1994) and Joey Mejias (2002) for single-season points.

Martin is also just the fourth Roadrunner to reach 70 points in his career.
