COMPLETE RESULTS
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. The Cal State Bakersfield men and womens team were swept by a wellrested UC San Diego squad in a double dual meet Saturday afternoon at the John S. Hillman Aquatics Center on the CSUB campus.
The Triton women easily swam away with a 13799 victory over the Runners, but the mens match came down to the final relay before San Diego escaped with a narrow 125118 win.
The two west coast rivals entered the 400 free relay with the score tied at 114. Bakersfield took a quick lead after the first 100, but San Diego slowly chipped away and won the event by just over a second.
The Bakersfield mens squad won seven of the 13 events contest on Saturday, but the lack of depth for the Roadrunners may have cost them as five of their top swimmers were unavailable to swim.
Junior Piotr Gegotek won the 100 and 200 freestyle races to pace the Roadrunners.
On the womens side, the Tritons won nearly all of the events with the exception of diving. Senior Laura Lafranchise easily won both boards for the second week in a row with scores of 267.75 on the 1-meter and 249.53 on the 3meter.
The Cal State Bakersfield swim teams are in action again next Saturday, Nov. 19, when they swim at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by the University of Redlands.
