BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Senior middle blocker Sabrina Smart (Shafter/Bakersfield College) earned first team AllPacific Region recognition as named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Smart is now eligible for NCAA Division II AllAmerica honors. Those awards will be given Wednesday, Dec. 1. She will look to become the 15th Roadrunner volleyball player to earn All America laurels in the last 15 years. To date, 14 Runner players have captured 21 AllAmerica awards, including 1994 Player of the Year Christy Wieneke.
In addition to Smart, junior rightside hitter Lindsey Jordan (Santa Barbara/San Marcos HS) was named to honorable mention allregion.
Smart capped a brilliant senior season by hitting .375, a CSUB record that shattered former AllAmerican Rachel Mortons previous mark by 21 points (.355). She earned first team AllCCAA honors as one of the top hitters and blockers in conference play this season.
A young CSUB squadof which Smart was the only seniorcapped a solid 2004 campaign last week when it advance to the NCAA Pacific Regionals for the 15th time in the last 17 seasons. CSUB finished the year 179 and tied for third place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
