Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

`Runners Start Season with Home Opener Win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a home victory Thursday night at the Main Soccer Field. Riding a second-half goal from Oshea Foster, CSUB posted a 1-0 shutout over visiting Utah Tech.

Key Facts
  • In the first official game of the season, the `Runners protected their home field in a victory against the Trailblazers.
  • Foster, a senior `Runner, scored the lone goal on the evening in the 57th minute of the match.
  • CSUB applied pressure to Utah Tech early and often, keeping the Blazers off balance and unable to create many quality chances on goal.
  • CSUB goalkeeper Zenden Hart made a pair of saves in the team's first shutout as the `Runner defense completely stifled its visitors.
  • The two teams played hard in a physical game that saw six yellow cards handed out – five to Trailblazers and one to a `Runner.
First Half

Bakersfield came out of the gate hot, offensively pressuring Utah Tech at every opportunity. Despite outshooting their visitors 8-3, the `Runners went to the halftime break with a nil-nil tie, feeling disappointed they had not broke open the scoring.

Second Half

The relentless effort of the `Runners continued into the second period and CSUB finally broke through in the 57th minute. Defender Jackson Chambers lobbed a perfect pass over the heads of the Trailblazers and the speedy Foster chased it down and finished to give the `Runners a 1-0 advantage.

The Blazers did not quit after conceding the goal, using physicality to slow the game down and create a few quality chances of their own. Despite the late surge by the visiting team, Hart and the Bakersfield defense held strong to seal the shutout win.
