Bakersfield Secures Series Win with 12-6 Victory Over Long Beach State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield used a balanced offensive attack and timely hitting to take the second game of the series, defeating Long Beach State 12-6 on Saturday afternoon at Hardt Field.

The Roadrunners (9-14, 3-5 Big West) scored in six different innings and capitalized on key opportunities to pull away late, securing the series victory over the Dirtbags.

After trading runs early, CSUB broke the game open in the middle innings. Bakersfield plated three runs in the fourth inning to take control, highlighted by run-producing at-bats from Jacob May and Devon Wilkes. The ‘Runners continued to build their lead with single runs in the fifth and a three-run sixth inning, followed by another three-spot in the seventh.

Wilkes paced the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, including a triple and an RBI. May drove in two runs and scored twice, while Elijah Pelayo reached base three times, scored three runs, and added an RBI. Brendan Thompson delivered a key pinch-hit, driving in two runs, and Matt Dobson chipped in with an RBI knock.

CSUB showed discipline at the plate, drawing nine walks while collecting nine hits, and consistently pressured Long Beach State pitching throughout the afternoon.

On the mound, Nathaniel Pimentel (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless inning. CJ Brown provided length out of the bullpen, allowing two runs over 3.1 innings, while Gethse Ulloa and Alex Navarrete combined to close out the final frames and secure the victory.

The Roadrunners will look to complete the series sweep in the finale on Sunday at Hardt Field.
