CSUB Launches Nationwide Search for Men’s Basketball Head Coach

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – California State University, Bakersfield has launched a nationwide search for the next head coach of the men's basketball program, a storied franchise and the only NCAA Division I men's basketball team in the Southern San Joaquin Valley.

"Roadrunner basketball and Cal State Bakersfield are one and the same in the hearts of thousands of fans across Kern County because of the thrilling displays of talent we've seen on the court and the legacy of excellence that goes back to the earliest days of this university," said CSUB President Dr. Vernon B. Harper Jr. "We want to respect our proud history while opening a new era of excellence, thrilling gameplay, student-athlete success, and principled leadership for men's basketball. And we want this community there by our side, cheering us on."

The university is partnering with CSA Search & Consulting, a North Carolina executive search firm that leverages a nationwide network of search experts and consultants to identify and match candidates with institutions across collegiate athletics and higher education.

It is the first time in recent memory the university has engaged a search firm to fill a vacant coaching position, underscoring President Harper's commitment to hiring a strategic, respected leader with a galvanizing vision and proven track record for success.

"This search is about more than filling a position; it's about identifying the right leader for this moment in our program's history," said Dr. Sarah Tuohy, CSUB's Acting Director of Athletics. "CSA brings a level of expertise, discretion, and due diligence that allows us to be intentional in identifying candidates who understand the landscape of Division I athletics and who are prepared to lead with integrity, vision, and a championship mindset."

The search firm has begun meeting with key stakeholders, including alumni, supporters and members of the Kern County community to help identify characteristics and attributes of the ideal head coach.
