Roadrunners Earn First Win of the Season in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners were back in action at a weekend tournament in Spokane, Washington. In their final contest of the tournament, CSUB defeated the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in four sets, securing their first win of the season.

Under co-interim head coaches Felipe Nogueira and Cinthia Angus, the Roadrunner volleyball squad battled to take the opening set, found their rhythm in the second, and closed out the match by winning sets three and four.

With a roster of 14 players and only one returner, Bakersfield saw several standouts on the court. Sophomore outside hitter Suelen Lima, from São Bento do Sul, Brazil, had an outstanding match, recording a team-high 13 kills while hitting .400. Teammate Nicole Zake added 12 kills to the effort.

As a team, the Roadrunners combined for 52 kills and 45 digs. Starting libero Julia Udell earned All-Tournament Team honors after posting a team-high nine digs in the match and totaling 52 digs over the weekend.

CSUB will now return home to open the 2025 season in the Icardo Center on Tuesday, hosting Santa Clara in a single non-conference match.
