• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer team looks to build on the momentum of an exciting postseason run heading into the 2025 season.
• Bakersfield’s 2024 squad made a deep run into the postseason, reaching the Big West Championship match before ultimately falling in penalty kicks.
• Under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Whitney Pitalo, the 2025 Roadrunner roster features 32 women: 18 returners and 14 newcomers.
• CSUB’s group of returners includes a strong core of veterans with ample experience. To name a few:
  • Kamy Anaya (Sr.): Earned the starting goalkeeper role during Bakersfield’s postseason run and she was voted the Big West's top goalkeeper heading into the 2025 season
  • Kim Garcia (5th) & Cynthia Ramirez (Sr.): CSUB’s offensive leaders last year with 4 goals and 10 points each
  • Paige Rodriguez (Sr.): Led CSUB with 7 assists in 2024
  • Catalina Roggerone (Sr.): Experienced defender who spent the summer helping Argentina’s Senior National Team at place third at Copa América Femenina.
• Sophomore defender Mya Clarke has proved to be an ironwoman as the only `Runner field player this season to play all 360 minutes.

• The Wildcats welcomed new head coach, Kyle Christensen, to the squad this season.
• Christensen was previously at UVU where he helped lead to four NCAA Tournament appearances, four WAC regular season championships and three WAC Tournament titles.
• The `Runners last challenged the Tigers on their home field back in 2019 ending the matchup with a 2-1 victory.

CSUB at Boise State  

• After the first home game of the season the `Runners are back on the road once again heading to Idaho.

• The Roadrunner men’s soccer team made a run at the Big West regular season title in 2024 and will look to finish the job heading into 2025.  
• Cal State Bakersfield played for the Big West crown in the regular season finale despite being predicted to finish last in the 2024 preseason Coaches Poll.  
• Third-year Head Coach Adam Grant will look to a large crop of experienced `Runners to lead a talented group of newcomers.  
• CSUB’s roster anchors itself to a group of returning veterans, including but not limited to:  
  • Zenden Hart (Jr.): Played all but 27 minutes in goal for CSUB in 2024  
  • Luka Geishauser (Jr.): Centerback who earned First Team All-Big West honors and has been recently named to the Preseason All-Conference Team   
  • Rashaad Ogun (5th): Leading returner in points (6) and goals (2)  
  • Fillip Arras (Jr.) & Bogart Roca (Sr.): Arras (6) and Boca (3) led CSUB in assists last year and joined Geishauser on a stout back line.  
• The `Runners officially opened up the 2025 season last week with a road game against a tough Utah Valley squad.

• After 38 years of coaching, San Jose State men’s soccer head coach Simon Tobin will be retiring at the end of this season. 
  • Tobin started off his career at CSUB up until 2014 when he moved to San Jose State.  
• Angel Iniguez was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s Midfielders to watch for the 2025 season 
• In the all-time series, San Jose State leads CSUB 13-8-4 
• The `Runners are prepared to settle the tiebreaker, as each of the last two meetings between the teams ended in 1-1 draws

CSUB at San Francisco    

• After back-to-back home games the `Runners are back on the road again heading to the Bay Area.

• San Francisco represents a tough opponent for the `Runners as the Dons have been known to produce extremely talented student-athletes 
  • Reid Roberts was selected fifth overall by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2025 Major League Soccer SuperDraft 
• The Dons finished second in the West Coast Conference standings in 2024, but without a WCC Tournament, USF missed out on the postseason as San Diego earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament 
• Having not played the Dons since 2023 the `Runners are ready to run it back once again 
  • Last time out, Bakersfield earned a 1-0 victory 

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team gets the season officially underway this weekend with their first non-conference tournament of the year. 
• The new-look Roadrunners are building team chemistry from the ground up as the CSUB roster features only one returner who was on the squad last Fall. 
• CSUB Volleyball is moving into a new era with the departure of its previous Head Coach, Giovana Melo. 
  • The `Runners will be led by co-interim Head Coaches, Felipe Nogueira and Cinthia Angus, both of whom have previous head coaching experience. 
• CSUB’s fresh-faced roster welcomes back one returner, Druegan Davis, as well as 14 newcomers. Highlights of a few first-time `Runners: 
  • Nicole Zake (So.): Transferred to CSUB in December from Virginia Tech 
  • Nele Broszat (Jr.): Spent freshman season at West Virginia before winning a NJCAA National Championship at Florida SouthWestern State last year 
  • Luiza Da Cruz (Jr.): Led Miami Dade College to NJCAA Runner-Up finishes in 2023 and 2024, falling to her now-teammate Nele Broszat’s team in the National Championship a year ago. 
• Bakersfield put together a good first showing, earning a 3-2 exhibition win over Saint Mary’s two weeks ago before hosting the team’s annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage this past weekend. 

CSUB at The Rebel Challenge

• Bakersfield will be making its first trip to a UNLV-hosted tournament since the 2012 season. 
• This weekend’s trip to Nevada will be the first of two this season for CSUB as the `Runners are scheduled to tackle UNR’s Nevada Invitational in two weeks. 
• CSUB opens the season on Friday against Utah Tech. 
  • The first-ever meeting between these two teams came last year during which the Trailblazers earned a 3-1 victory. 
• The middle match of the tournament features Bakersfield against tournament host UNLV. 
  • CSUB and UNLV will match up for the first time since 2011. The Rebels are 2-0 all-time against the `Runners. 
• Bakersfield closes out opening weekend with its first-ever meeting against Iowa.

• The Cal State Bakersfield cross country season will get their first test with a 4k run by the beach. 
• Standout `Runner Rain Gomez returns for her final season. She holds the CSUB 4k record and is #8 all-time in the 6k. 
• Freshman Ava Leisenfelder, from Stockdale High School, has been strong in the first week of team practices and has prepared herself well. She will run her first collegiate race this weekend. 
• Crystal Torrecillas ran #2 or #3 for the Roadrunners in her first season and is back to competition after a break from the sport. She ranks #5 all-time for CSUB in the 4k.   
• Valerie Garcia returns for her final season as a `Runner. 
• Crystal Raya is a grad transfer originally from Wasco who went to Bakersfield College and Fresno State is expected to be an impact on the team results. 

CSUB at Waves Invitational 

• The `Runners will kick off the season at Pepperdine’s annual meet with a twilight run near the coast. 
  • Friday, Aug. 29, 5:15 p.m. (PT) 
• Last year at the same race, Bakersfield placed seventh of seven teams in a strong field led by Cal Poly, Long Beach State, and USC. 
• Gomez led the `Runners in 2024 with a Top 25 finish and a time of 14:30.
