Soccer Alumni Event to Celebrate Retirement of Simon Tobin

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men's and women's soccer teams are preparing to host a joint Alumni Day event on Saturday, Apr. 26, at the Main Soccer Field. Over 150 alumni and their families have sent RSVPs for the event, which will also be open to the public, with a key part of the festivities being a retirement celebration for former CSUB Head Coach Simon Tobin.

The Roadrunners have coordinated a special event on Saturday, which will not only feature Tobin's recognition around noon, but a women's alumni game at 10:30 a.m. (PT) followed by a men's alumni game in the afternoon.

CSUB head coaches Adam Grant and Whitney Pitalo are excited to welcome back dozens of soccer alumni to Bakersfield. A few notable alumni expected to participate in the event include:
- Jeremy Gunn, the current Head Men's Soccer Coach at Stanford
- Gyasi Zardes, one of the most decorated professional athletes to ever compete for CSUB
- Brooke Radman, an All-American honoree from the women's program

As part of the festivities, a special recognition for Coach Tobin is planned to honor the nearly 40 years he committed to being a collegiate soccer coach, including over 25 seasons at Cal State Bakersfield.

The CSUB soccer programs are inviting alumni and the greater community to join them in contributing to endowing the Simon Tobin Scholarship, a new scholarship aimed to honor the legacy of Tobin while providing a path to higher education and collegiate competition for future `Runners.
