BAKERSFIELD, Calif. —Cal State Bakersfield's beach volleyball duo, senior Ella Erteltová and sophomore Vivi Kaelin, have made history by becoming the program's all-time career wins leaders, each securing 45 victories. This milestone surpasses the previous record held by alumna Hana Makanova, who concluded her career with 44 wins.
The record-breaking achievement occurred during the Big West Challenge held from March 21-22, 2025, at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex in San Luis Obispo, California. Competing as the No. 2 pair, Erteltová and Kaelin showcased exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
In their opening match against Sacramento State, the duo secured a straight-set victory over Ashlynn Archer and Ellie Tisko, contributing to CSUB's narrow 3-2 win. Despite the team's 1-4 loss to No. 8 Long Beach State, Erteltová and Kaelin earned a hard-fought three-set win against Julia Westby and Haley Carrington. They continued their success with a commanding straight-set victory over UC Davis's Lindsay Heller and Kendal Steller, even as the team fell 1-4. Facing No. 17 Hawai'i, the pair defeated Jesse Mann and Jasmine Wandeler in straight sets, though CSUB lost 1-4 overall. In a closely contested match against CSUN, Erteltová and Kaelin triumphed over Tia Mendiola and Julia Bazylevych, 21-11, 22-20, despite the team's 2-3 defeat.
These victories at the Big West Challenge not only highlight Erteltová and Kaelin's consistent excellence but also underscore their pivotal role in advancing CSUB's beach volleyball program. Their achievement sets a new benchmark for future Roadrunners and serves as an inspiration for the continuation of season.
