• CSUB remained in contention for a spot in the Big West Championships following their victory on Thursday night
  • Hawai’i dropped their final game on Saturday versus CSUN which helped CSUB clinch the 8-seed
• Bakersfield was down four at the half. 37-33 to the Rainbow Warriors but outscored UH in the second half 43-27
• The Rainbow Warriors had won the last seven games when playing CSUB prior to Thursday night
  • This was the first victory at Bakersfield for the Roadrunners when hosting UH
• Jemel Jones extended his new D1 CSUB single-season scoring record to 610 points after his 29-point performance
  • He finished the regular season with 19.1 points per game which is the new CSUB D1 scoring average record

• The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners kicked off their conference play with an impressive performance this week. Redshirt junior Nick Mascaro led the charge with an outstanding four-game stretch, hitting three home runs and driving in seven RBIs to help secure three wins in four games. Mascaro posted a remarkable .500 batting average, including nine hits, a double, and a stellar 1.056 slugging percentage. His offensive dominance has placed him at the top of the conference rankings—leading in batting average(.444) , first in home runs with six, and second in slugging percentage. He also ranks nationally, sitting 18th in doubles and 34th in slugging.
• Redshirt senior Jack Leary also played a pivotal role in Bakersfield's success. He was exceptional in the Roadrunners' win over the Pacific Tigers, tossing 7.1 innings of shutout ball while striking out seven batters and allowing just one hit. Leary followed up with a solid save performance against UC San Diego, pitching four innings and surrendering only two runs on four hits, with an impressive 1.59 ERA for the weekend.

CSUB 6, Pacific 0

• The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team traveled to Stockton for a single game against the Pacific Tigers, their first matchup of four this season.
• The Roadrunners dominated with a 6-0 win, highlighted by excellent pitching from redshirt senior Jack Leary. Leary was exceptional on the mound, throwing 7.1 shutout innings, striking out seven batters, and allowing only a single hit.
• The Roadrunners took their first run of the night in the fourth inning when Louis Zulaica scored Elijah Pelayo. In the fifth inning, Pelayo’s sacrifice fly scored Noah Alvarez, further extending Bakersfield’s lead.
• Leary’s dominance continued as he struck out five consecutive batters between the fifth and sixth innings, including three straight in the fifth, keeping the Tigers' offense at bay.
• Bakersfield’s offense heated up in the top of the eighth inning, as the Roadrunners loaded the bases twice and capitalized with four runs on six hits. The highlight of the inning came from Evan Cloyd, who hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to deep center field, extending Bakersfield’s commanding lead.
• The bullpen followed Leary’s stellar performance with strong outings from Tai Walton, Jeremy Jones, and Haldon Craig, shutting down any potential Pacific rallies and securing the 6-0 victory.

Game 1: CSUB 1, UCSD 9

• Bakersfield kicked off conference play against UC San Diego, coming off a thrilling win against Pacific.
• Both teams kept each other in check through the first five innings. Bakersfield’s Ryan King struck out seven batters before allowing a run in the top of the fifth inning.
• UC San Diego then took over, scoring nine runs by the bottom of the seventh.
• Bakersfield attempted to rally in the top of the ninth but only managed to score a single run, falling 9-1.

Game 2: CSUB 10, UCSD 3

• The Roadrunners responded in a big way on day two of their Big West series against UC San Diego, winning 10-3. Bakersfield’s offense exploded, scoring 10 runs on 10 hits.
• Nick Mascaro was the standout player, driving in four RBIs with two home runs and a double.
• After a quiet start, UC San Diego briefly took the lead in the fifth inning. However, Bakersfield came alive in the sixth.
• Brock Perreira sparked the offense with a clutch hit, and the Roadrunners added two more runs, taking a 3-2 lead.
• Bakersfield’s offensive surge continued in the seventh inning, with Mascaro hitting a towering home run to right field, extending the lead.
• The Roadrunners tacked on two more runs in the inning. In the top of the ninth, Noah Alvarez hit his first home run of the season, and Mascaro followed with his second home run of the game, tying the CSUB Division I home run record.
• Tyrese Johnson added the final run with a single, securing a 10-3 victory.
• Jack Leary closed out the game, earning the save for Bakersfield.

Game 3: CSUB 11, UCSD 7

• The Roadrunners capped off their series against UC San Diego with an 11-7 victory.
• Bakersfield’s offense erupted for 11 runs on 15 hits.
• Nick Mascaro hit a three-run home run, moving him into CSUB’s top 10 for home runs in a single season.
• Kanao Morisaki also added his first home run of the season, driving in three runs.
• Bakersfield wasted no time, jumping to a 5-0 lead in the second inning with Mascaro’s three-run blast. UC San Diego fought back, scoring two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth, cutting the lead to 8-6.
• But the Roadrunners answered in the eighth with additional runs, sealing the 11-7 victory.
• Michael Riley closed out the game with solid pitching, allowing just one run and two hits in the final innings.
• This victory marks Bakersfield’s first Big West series win under head coach Jordon Banfield and their first series win over UC San Diego since 2021.

• CSUB was being held hitless in game one till the bottom of the sixth, but could not get any runners across
• In the seventh inning UCD got on the board to go up 1-0 after a bases loaded hit by pitch
  • In the bottom frame of the inning, Karissa Munsey pinch hit for Hannah Garcia with two runners on and plated Kaia Johnson to tie it 1-1
  • Down to the final out, Jocelynn Molina drove in the game winning run on a single that just got over the outstretched centerfielder’s head
• Bakersfield’s other win came in game three courtesy of another clutch hit from Munsey
• CSUB was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning
  • Munsey and Shay Fuimaono drove in the first two runs for CSUB
  • Munsey came up with two out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and hit a walk off grand slam to help CSUB win their first Big West opening series since joining the conference

• The Roadrunners came off their best performance of the Spring season in Arizona last week
• Bakersfield placed 7th in the SUU Pizza Hut Invitational
  • Beating out Wyoming, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Eastern Washington, and Idaho State
  • The `Runners finished just three strokes behind 6th place Utah Tech

SUU Pizza Hut Invitational

• The Roadrunners finished 7th place this weekend, last year in St. George they placed 12th of 13
• From this year to last year when competing in the SUU Pizza Hut Invitational, the Roadrunners saw a 45 stroke improvement
  • Last season CSUB finished team score of 947 (+83), this season they finished with a score of 902 (+38)
• Sarah Mutai placed 10th on the individual leaderboard and finished +4 on the weekend (74, 73, 73)
  • This was Mutai’s second-best performance this season in a 54-hole tournament
• Iris Han +7 (78, 71, 74) placed T-21, just three strokes behind Mutai

CSUB 51, Hawai’i 66

• The Cal State Bakersfield Women's Basketball team concluded their season in Hawai’i.
• They started strong, leading at the beginning of the first quarter, but were unable to maintain the advantage.
• Hawai’i, the top team in the Big West Conference, ultimately defeated the Roadrunners.
• Melissa Secchiaroli closed out her career as a ‘Runner with a team-high 11 points and a steal in her final game.
• points in just 21 minutes of play, while Taylor Caldwell contributed 11 points, five blocks, and two steals in her final game at the Icardo Center.

Yagers and Toro Finished First at the Beach Opener

Beach Opener – Friday - Saturday, Mar. 7-8

• The Cal State Bakersfield track and field program competed at the Beach Opener hosted by Long Beach State.
• CSUB saw Big West opponents such as Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and CSU Northridge. Other notable schools at the meet were UCLA, Azusa Pacific, Cal State LA, and Cal Poly Pomona.
• Jacob Yagers continued his success on the track with his third individual win, this time in the men’s 1,500m race. He crossed the finish line with a time of 3:52.20.
• Teammate Javier Toro is showing his strength on the field. Toro placed first overall in the shot put with a mark of 55’11”. He also placed sixth overall in the men’s hammer throw against notable opponents.
• Makiah Parker ran the #6 fastest time in CSUB history in the women’s 200m. Her time of 24.58 placed her 6th overall.  
• Julie Johnson placed sixth overall in the women’s 400m and joined Makiah Parker in the 200m with a #18 all-time spot in program history.
• With a time of 4:48.22 in the women’s 1,500m, Rain Gomez finished fifth overall. Her time is good for #15 on the program’s all-time list.
• Ivy Miller placed sixth overall in the women’s 400mH with a new #11 time on the CSUB all-time list.
• Bakersfield will take the next weekend off but will look to bounce back in two weeks for the Conover Classic hosted by Cal Poly.
