• Now in the final month of the regular season, the Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team is preparing to host four-straight home duals in February.
• Two Roadrunners are currently nationally ranked by multiple major polls (FloWrestling/InterMat/The Open Mat): #3/3/3 AJ Ferrari (197), #25/21/18 Jake Andrews (HWT).
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #13 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling.
• FloWrestling ranks Cal State Bakersfield #25 as a team while InterMat (#27) has the Roadrunners in the same ballpark.
• Bakersfield native Jake Andrews is now 17-2 on the year, making his true senior season his best to date.
• CSUB has won Pac-12 Athlete of the Week five times this season: Jake Andrews (Nov. 26), Guillermo Escobedo (Dec. 17), AJ Ferrari (Dec. 24 & Jan. 14), Gerrit Nijenhuis (Jan. 28).
• Bakersfield’s wrestling program had an active streak of sending at least one Roadrunner to the NCAA Championships for 50 consecutive seasons, snapped last year. A mix of ready returners and determined newcomers will help 6th-year Head Coach Luke Smith return the program to new prominence in the wrestling world.
• Smith recruited two standout veterans to help guide the way: 2021 NCAA Champion (197) AJ Ferrari and 3-time NCAA Qualifier (174/165) Gerrit Nijenhuis (Oklahoma/Purdue).
• Several consistent starters returned from last season’s lineup with Bakersfield boasting a battle-tested lineup: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Santino Sanchez (133), Brock Rogers (149), Devyn Flores-Che (157), Guillermo Escobedo (165), and Jake Andrews (HWT).

CSUB vs. Air Force 

• Cal State Bakersfield welcomes Big 12 member Air Force to Bakersfield on Super Sunday.

• The match will be over by 1 p.m., leaving plenty of time to get to your Super Bowl part ahead of the 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
• CSUB and Air Force will be meeting for just the 4th time in the all-time series.
• The first-ever meeting was during the 1977-78 season, then the two teams did not meet again for almost 45 years.
• Air Force won the last two matchups (2022 and 2023) between these teams.
• Two years ago in Colorado, the Falcons bested the `Runners 30-8, winning 7 of 10 bouts.

• The Cal State women's basketball team is splitting this week with two games: Thursday at UC Santa Barbara and Saturday at home against UC Riverside. Bakersfield will also host an alumni event for past players during Saturday's game in the Icardo Center.

UC Santa Barbara - Thursday, February 6th at 7:00 pm

• This will be the second meeting of the season between the Roadrunners and the Gauchos.
  • In the previous matchup, Bakersfield put up a strong fight but fell short, losing 61-57.
• The Roadrunners played hard, and this upcoming match-up provides an opportunity to secure a win and even the season series.
• UCSB is currently on a two-game winning streak and holds a 6-5 conference record.
• The Gauchos are tied for sixth in the Big West, alongside UC Riverside—whom Bakersfield will face on Saturday.

• Saturday’s game will feature an alumni event, inviting past CSUB women’s basketball players to attend and show support.
• This will be the second meeting with the Highlanders this season, as Bakersfield looks to bounce back from a 60-48 road loss earlier this year.
• Ary Dizon will continue to lead the Roadrunners. Known for her defensive prowess, she ranks nationally in blocks and is also one of the team’s top scorers, averaging 8.6 points per game.
