• The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team is back in full swing for the 2025 season and will be on the road until March 11th, with a single home game against Pacific at 6:30 pm. 
• Starting their road trip, they are set to travel to USC for a single game this Wednesday.
• Following their game against the Trojans, CSUB travels to Nevada to take on the Wolfpack for a four-game series.
• Bakersfield's new head coach Jordon Banfield earned his first win as head coach for the Roadrunners over the weekend when they beat Lamar 8-1. 

@ USC, Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

• The USC Trojans opened their season against George Washington with a three-game series.
• The Trojans swept the series, shutting down George Washington. Their first game ended 15-2, followed by a 9-8, and capped off the series with a 7-5 win.
• CSUB last faced USC in 2023 when they traveled to L.A. for a single game, losing by four runs in a fierce 12-8 battle.
• The `Runners have one win against USC in their history, which came in 2013.

@ Nevada, Friday-Monday 

• After their single game against USC, the `Runners will head to play against the Nevada Wolf Pack.
• This will be the third series between CSUB and Nevada, and the first four-game series.
• CSUB will start the series on Friday night and play through Monday.
• Historically, Nevada leads 4-2 against CSUB.
•  The Wolfpack has a 1-3 record to start the year, having only won a single game against Cal.

• Now in the final month of the regular season, the Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team is in the midst of hosting four-straight home duals in February.
• This weekend's clashes are scheduled to feature a marquee matchup at 285 pounds between #16 Jake Andrews and Cal Poly's #22 Trevor Tinker. Andrews defeated Tinker with a late takedown at the Roadrunner Open back in November.
• Two Roadrunners are currently nationally ranked by multiple major polls (FloWrestling/InterMat/The Open Mat): #4/4/2 AJ Ferrari (197), #28/20/16 Jake Andrews (HWT).
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #13 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling.
• FloWrestling and InterMat rank Cal State Bakersfield #27 as a team while The Open Mat has the Roadrunners at #22.
• Bakersfield native Jake Andrews is now 20-2 on the year, making his true senior season his best to date.

• Bakersfield’s wrestling program had an active streak of sending at least one Roadrunner to the NCAA Championships for 50 consecutive seasons, snapped last year. A mix of ready returners and determined newcomers will help 6th-year Head Coach Luke Smith return the program to new prominence in the wrestling world.
• Smith recruited two standout veterans to help guide the way: 2021 NCAA Champion (197) AJ Ferrari and 3-time NCAA Qualifier (174/165) Gerrit Nijenhuis (Oklahoma/Purdue).

• CSUB and California Baptist will be meeting for the 11th time in the all-time series.
• The `Runners own an 8-2 advantage over the Lancers, but CBU has won each of the last two meetings.
• A year ago in Riverside, CBU defeated CSUB 31-7.
• CSUB and Cal Poly are long-time co-members of the Pac-12 and the Mustangs are the `Runners' most familiar foes. Sunday's clash will be the 57th all-time meeting.
• CSUB leads the all-time series 32-22-2, but the Mustangs have won each of the last three meetings.
• Last year in San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly dominated CSUB for a 43-3 victory.

• The Cal State Bakersfield track and field program is ready to kick off the 2025 season at the Sunbird Invitational.
• The women's program is coming off a historic indoor season where they saw multiple school records broken and various top five marks in program history. Makiah Parker, Skye Odom, and Julie Johnson broke school records in their respective events.
• The men have been prepping for their opportunity to race since early Fall.
• Both teams are eager to rep the blue and gold on the track. 

CSUB at Sunbird Invitational - Feb. 22

• The top returners for CSUB are the throwers group, including - Javier Toro, who qualified for NCAA's in the hammer throw and is on the program's #5 all-time list for the event, and Tom Richardson, who sat out last year after having surgery. Richardson was runner up during the 2023 season at the Big West Championships. He is #14 all-time in the shot put and #19 in the hammer throw for CSUB.
• Freshman Tyler Balgeman was a state finalist in the discus and shot put. Balgeman will add the hammer throw to his resume this Spring. 
• On track, Jacob Yagers is set to return. Yagers was a Big West finalist in the 1500 meters in 2024. 
• He ran #3 all-time for CSUB in the event and won the Bryan Clay Invitational B-section last year and had the fastest time in over 30 years for CSUB. He also holds the school record in the 3,000m and #12 all-time in the 800m. 
• Freshman Dylan Thompson is set to race in all sprint events and both relays. Transfer from Hartnell College, Ethan Lavina is set to compete in the jump events this weekend.
• Filling out the relay teams are Meshach Davis, Jacob Mounmanivong, Skyblue Gonzales, and Kenny Rugano. 
• The women had four indoor meets under their belt and are set to compete outdoors for the first time. 
• The 200m group consisting of Makiah Parker, Amiera Hollis, Alexis Pitts, and Julie Johnson will also take part in the relays. 
• Emilia Mandela will compete in the 100mH, while Ivy Miller and Jaztyn Greer will join her in the event and will also take part in the 400mH. 
• Newcomer Grace Padron will make her outdoor debut in the hammer throw.

• Bakersfield comes into this weekend 7-5 and on a five-game winning streak after going 5-1 in the Spring Fling Tournament
• Maalia Cherry finished the weekend with 15 RBI, good for second in the nation this past week
  • She also hit five home runs, with two multi-home run games, the first since 2015
• Pacific is 3-5, all three wins coming this past weekend in the Matador Classic, where they beat CSUN, outscoring them 26-15
  • CSUB is 8-19 versus Pacific, losing the last three meetings
• Montana is 2-8 with wins over Colgate and Manhattan
  • The Roadrunners are 6-4 all-time versus the Grizzlies, but have lost the last two meetings
• The Roadrunners will head to Santa Clara after the Welter Classic on Monday afternoon. The Broncos are currently 7-3 and on a four-game win streak, beating Cal Poly and UC San Diego this past weekend

• The Beach Volleyball program will kick off the 2025 season by heading to Malibu for their first tournament.
