Roadrunners Drop Opener Versus Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. - For the second year in a row the Roadrunners opened up their season versus UC Berkeley, CSUB traveled up north seeking their first victory over Cal since 2017 in the NIT. 

Cal jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead, CSUB got on the board as CJ Hardy drew a foul, knocking down two free throws. The Roadrunners went on a run of their own in the middle of the first half, down 16-6 they cut the lead to 18-16 after a 10-2 run. The Golden Bears surged in the second half shooting 67% from the field, securing their victory over the Roadrunners. Bakersfield was able to draw fouls and get to the free throw line but struggled, shooting 63.3% (19-30) from the line. 

Newcomers Dailin Smith and Ronald Jessamy made a splash in their `Runner debuts, both scoring 16 points. Jessamy added seven rebounds to his final stat line. The Roadrunners also enjoyed a 29 minute outing from veteran Tom Mark, who missed a large portion of the last season. Mark scored 4 points (1-3 FG, 2-4 FT), collected three rebounds, and recorded two blocks.
