• The Cal State Bakersfield Men’s Soccer team earned a pair of hard-fought draws against tough Big West foes thanks to late goals in both matches.
• Head Coach Adam Grant set up a tough non-conference schedule for his squad, which featured four different teams that were either ranked or received votes in the NCAA Top 25 polls at some point this season.
  • Despite finishing the preseason with an 0-7-1 record, the Roadrunners were clearly well-prepared to compete in The Big West.
• At the end of Week 2 of Big West play, the `Runners are tied for first in the league standings, still undefeated with a 2-0-2 conference record.
• CSUB goalkeeper Zenden Hart was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6 following a pair of road shutouts.
• This week, the `Runners were led by freshman Jacob Bernauer, who tallied a goal in each of CSUB’s contests.
• Bakersfield played short-handed most of the preseason, missing two or more starters per match, including First Team All-Conference defender Luka Geishauser, and both of the team’s captains.
  • Geishauser finally made his return shortly before conference matches began and he made an immediate impact on the back line.

CSUB 2, UC Irvine 2 

• Trailing twice in the match, the `Runners rallied both times and earned a late equalizing goal to record a crucial point in the draw against the Anteaters.
• Visiting UC Irvine scored an early goal to take a 1-0 just 15 minutes into the contest.
• After going to halftime with the 1-0 score, Bakersfield needed less than 10 minutes in the second half to find the equalizer.
  • Freshman Jacob Bernauer slotted home his first goal as a `Runner to tie the score 1-1.
• In the 81st minute, the Anteaters drew a penalty kick after a handball in the box by the `Runners.
  • The kick was true and sent UCI ahead once again, 2-1.
• In the final moments, Bakersfield continued to pressure and finally, with 11 seconds left on the clock, Rashaad Ogun headed home the equalizer to steal a point for the league standings.

CSUB 1, UC Santa Barbara 1 

• For the second-straight game, the Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team enjoyed some late heroics leading to an equalizing goal.
  • The matchup featured the league's top two teams, who remain deadlocked atop the Big West standings following Saturday's draw.
• The two teams played a tight, scoreless first half before host UC Santa Barbara broke through early in the second period.
  • The Gauchos netted the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute.
• Bakersfield continued to fight all the way to the end of the match, and persistence paid off once again as the `Runners finally broke through in the 81st minute.
  • Earning a free kick in a dangerous spot, set piece specialist Filip Arras served a perfect ball into the Gaucho box. Arras found the head of freshman Jacob Bernauer, who flicked the ball past the UCSB keeper for his second goal of the week.

• The Roadrunner Women’s Soccer team split a pair of games this week, earning a win at home before dropping a tight content on the road. 
• Following three weeks of Big West play, Cal State Bakersfield is tied for seventh in the league standings, just one point behind the sixth-place team, with the Top 6 teams in the conference making the Big West Championship. 
• CSUB’s roster features a wide range of offensive weapons as 8 different `Runners have tallied at least 1 goal this season. 
  • Seniors Natalie O’Sullivan, Sara Ybarra, and Cynthia Ramirez as well as sophomore Isis Salazar-Ortega lead the charge at 3 goals apiece. 
• Mya Fortun continues to be an ironwoman as the defender is the only `Runner field player to play all 1,260 minutes this season.

CSUB 2, Long Beach State 1 

• The Roadrunners hosted the Beach on Wednesday night, coming away with three vital points thanks to a come-from-behind victory. 
• LBSU took an early lead with a 14th-minute goal from Natalie Arnold. 
• Bakersfield continued to press and found the equalizing goal with just 13 seconds remaining in the first half. 
  • CJ Walters headed home a corner kick from Cynthia Ramirez as Walters notched her first assist of the season. 
• Less than 10 minutes into the second period, Bakersfield struck again for what would prove to be the game-winning goal. 
  • For the second time on the night, Ramirez played a perfect cross into the box, this time finding the head of Isis Salazar-Ortega, who beat the LBSU keeper for her third goal of the season. 
• LBSU continued to pressure, but CSUB goalkeeper Kamy Anaya made six saves on the night as the `Runner defense held on for a 2-1 victory. 

CSUB 0, CSUN 1 

• Cal State Bakersfield played shorthanded missing three starters and fell short against a CSUN squad that is now tied for first in The Big West standings. 
• After playing a scoreless first half, the Matadors finally broke through in the 73rd minute on a goal from Cailey Jackson. 
• Bakersfield continually pressured its host, putting up 12 shots on the night, but the `Runners were unable to break through in the 1-0 loss. 

• The Roadrunner volleyball team continued to play well this week, splitting a pair Big West road matches.  
• Cal State Bakersfield continues to be a difficult matchup for opponents, at times excelling in blocking and/or serving. 
  • The `Runners rank No. 2 in The Big West with 1.58 aces per set this season. 
• Pin hitter Suelen Lima stepped up this week to be the go-to offensive weapon for the `Runners. 
  • Lima average 4.14 kills per set on .324 hitting while adding 0.86 blocks per set. 
• Libero Julia Udell averaged 4.14 digs per set this week and she ranks sixth in the league in the category for the year (3.92). 
• Middle blocker Nela Broszat tallied 12 blocks across the two matches for an impressive per-set average of 1.71.

• The `Runners used a wild second set to catalyze a come-from-behind victory: 15-25, 31-29, 25-19, 25-15 
• Suelen Lima led Bakersfield with a season-high 20 kills, adding three blocks in the victory. 
• Nela Broszat tallied seven blocks against the Anteaters. 
• Druegan Davis (10) and Eva Erzen (10) each chipped in double-digit kills. 
• Luiza Da Cruz (22) and Evelyn Trivino Espinosa (21) each contributed big assist totals. 
• UC Irvine normally represents a tough test for the `Runners as CSUB earned just its second victory over the Anteaters in the last eight meetings. 

CSUB 0, Cal State Fullerton 3 

• Bakersfield struggled at the net, committing too many unforced errors to overcome the Titans in three tight sets: 21-25, 22-25, 20-25 
• Suelen Lima once again led Bakersfield, posting nine kills in the match. 
• Nela Broszat added five more blocks in the losing effort. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s golf team traveled south for its annual dual against Big West rival CSUN.
• CSUB Head Coach Katy Baxter looked to a native of Bakersfield to lead her squad in the single-round of play.

• Cal State Bakersfield dropped its annual dual against CSUN for the second straight year as the Matadors came back to the clubhouse with a 20-stroke advantage.
  • After winning back-to-back duals prior to last season, the `Runners will look to get back in the win column next season.
• CSUB was led by Iris Han, a former graduate of Stockdale High School in Bakersfield.
  • The senior `Runner shot a one-over-par 73 on the single round of action.
• Bakersfield’s scoring four was rounded out by Sarah Mutai (75), Rena Kaneko (78), and Anna Kehrer (82).
