• Following an undefeated exhibition slate (2-0-1), including a tie against No. 11 LMU and a 3-1 road win against No. 21 UCLA, the Cal State Bakersfield men’s soccer team looks forward to officially kicking off the 2024 season this week.
• The Roadrunners went 7-5-5 last year despite losing its head coach less than a month before the season began.
• With his “interim” tag removed, Head Coach Adam Grant heads into Year 2 returning 89% of his scoring (17 of 19 goals) from 2023.
• Included in a large group of returning Roadrunners is team captain and Bakersfield native Bryson Hankins, who earned First Team All-Big West last year.
• CSUB earned three Big West Freshman of the Week honors last season: Jesse Wangusi, Luka Geishauser, and Adrian Jogerst. All three have returned for their sophomore campaigns.
• The stout `Runner defense ranked first in The Big West and 18th in NCAA Division I with a 0.824 Goals Against Average in 2023.

 CSUB vs. Utah Tech

• Utah Tech went 9-9-0 last season before tripping up in the second round of the WAC Tournament.
• CSUB and the Trailblazers have split their two prior meetings, with each team taking a 1-0 road win over the other.
• Last year in St. George, Utah, the `Runners earned a 1-0 victory thanks to a 47-minute goal from Connor Mautino.

 CSUB at San José State

• San Jose, Calif.
• SJSU posted a 6-8-4 record a year again before falling to Utah Tech in the first round of the WAC Tournament.
• The `Runners trail the Spartans in the all-time series, 8-13-2.
• Last year, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in Bakersfield.
• SJSU is led by former CSUB Head Coach Simon Tobin, who led Cal State Bakersfield to an NCAA Division II National Championship in 1997.

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team is excited to announce the kickoff of their 2024 season with the highly anticipated annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage. 
• The Blue-Gold Scrimmage will feature the team divided into blue and gold squads, providing fans with an exciting preview of the players and their performance ahead of the official season opener. This intra-squad matchup not only highlights the team’s talent but also offers a key opportunity for players to hone their skills and build team chemistry.
• Head Coach Giovana Melo shared her enthusiasm for the season, stating, “I am really excited for this season. I think we have a great group of young women who have been dedicated to the process of getting better each day. They are investing in each other as people and buying into the things we are trying to do this year.”
• “We’re eager to showcase our team’s talent and spirit at this year’s Blue-Gold Game,” Melo added. “It’s a great way to start the season and build momentum as we prepare for the upcoming challenges.”
• Fans are encouraged to attend the Blue-Gold Game at the Icardo Center and support the Roadrunners as they gear up for what promises to be an exciting season of volleyball.
