Barnes Adds NABC Two Year College Player of the Year

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2024-25 Cal State Bakersfield men's basketball roster just got deeper as Rod Barnes and his staff add Jemel Jones, who is set to join the Roadrunners this Fall. Jones is coming off a stellar season, being recognized as the NJCAA II National Player of the Year.

Head Coach Rod Barnes on what Jemel Jones will bring to the 2024-25 Roadrunners:

"We are delighted to announce the signing of Jemel Jones from South Suburban College to the `Runners. Jemel, known for his exceptional scoring ability, brings a versatile offensive arsenal that enables him to score in a variety of ways. Whether it’s shooting from long range, driving through tough defenses, or finishing at the rim, Jemel’s dynamic scoring talent promises to invigorate the `Runners’ offensive strategies.

His fierce competitiveness is a key attribute that Jemel will bring to our program. This trait not only makes him a formidable opponent on the court but also drives his teammates to elevate their own performances, fostering a culture of excellence and determination within the team.

Moreover, Jemel's humility and strong work ethic exemplify the core values of CSUB. His dedication to improving his game and his down-to-earth nature make him an ideal fit for both the university and the Bakersfield community. A native of south side Chicago, Jemel will be an inspiration on and off the floor to many people from his hometown. Chicago players are known to be tough and gritty which aligns with our values here at CSUB.

We are thrilled to welcome Jemel Jones into the `Runner family. His addition to our team is a significant step forward for our basketball program, and we eagerly anticipate the passion and energy he will bring to CSUB. Jemel’s future with the Roadrunners holds great promise for success and community engagement.”
