• Bakersfield earns their first run rule victory since March 2023 with a 12-3 victory in Game 2 at UC Santa Barbara.
• Shaylene Fuimaono drove in four runs on the weekend with three hits, two for extra bases.
• Violet Salazar batted .500 on the weekend, driving in two runs and scoring twice.
• Kaia Johnson broke CSUB's single-season stolen base record, stealing two bases Sunday.

CSUB 5, UC Santa Barbra 15 – Saturday, April 6 (Game 1)

• Maya Williams started the game with a leadoff home run on a 2-2 count.
• UCSB responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, putting up four runs on a pair of singles and a sac fly.
• Kaia Johnson reached base on an error in the second inning and was later plated by Shaylene Fuimaono to cut the deficit to 4-2.
• In the top of the third, Johnson drove in two runs with a triple to put the `Runners within a run of the Gauchos with a score of 5-4.
• UC Santa Barbra tacked on three runs in the bottom frame of the third and later put the game out of reach, going up 15-5 and enforcing the run rule to end the game.

CSUB 12, UC Santa Barbara 3 – Saturday, April 6 (Game 2)

• In Game 2 of the doubleheader, CSUB looked to bounce back and they did so in a big way.
• Through the first three innings, Kirsten Martinez held the Gauchos to just two runs on three hits.
• CSUB was down 2-1 going into the fifth inning when the Roadrunner offense took over the game:
  • Shaylene Fuimaono and Natalya Rodriguez got the party started with back-to-back solo home runs to take the lead
  • Karissa Munsey hit a sac fly into foul territory that would plate Maya Williams
  • Dani Hunter doubled to left center scoring Violet Salazar, taking a 5-2 lead
  • Fuimaono added two more runs to her total with a single up the middle, driving in Hailey Brooks and Yisela Reynoso
    • Fuimaono finished the game with three total RBI
  • Bakersfield’s rally ended after plating 11 runs and taking a 12-2 lead
• Martinez allowed just one run in the bottom of the fifth as the `Runners won Game 2.
• This was the first run rule victory for CSUB since March 17, 2023, with a 10-2 victory over UC San Diego.

CSUB 2, UC Santa Barbara 11 – Sunday, April 7

• Bakersfield picked up where they left off in Game 2 scoring in the first inning on a fielder’s choice that scored Karissa Munsey.
• UCSB responded with five runs in the bottom frame the first inning.
• A double steal in the third inning cut the Roadrunner deficit to 5-2.
  • Kaia Johnson stole second base on the double steal scoring Logan-Ray Gaspar
  • Johnson’s stolen base broke the single-season stolen base record, she then stole third base to extend her total to 18 bases
• The Gauchos broke this game open with a four run third inning going up 10-2 on the way to clinching the Big West series.

• The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team faced off against their cross-valley rival, Fresno State, getting “Rowdy for the Valley” out at Hardt Field in a midweek game Tuesday night. 
• After the Roadrunners walked off against the Bulldogs, CSUB hosted Cal State Fullerton and earned its second-straight Big West series, taking 2-of-3 games from the Titans.
• The `Runners have now won five of their last six games.
• CSUB enjoyed several outstanding individual performances this week:
  • Jason Leon: .556 BA, 2 doubles
  • Kobe Silva: .462 BA, 3 runs, 3 RBI
  • Max Bernal: .385 BA, 4 runs, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 4 RBI 1.000 SLG%
  • Ryan Verdugo: 7.1 shutout innings pitched, 8 strikeouts
  • David Villegas: 2 saves

 CSUB 7, Fresno State 6 – Tuesday, Apr. 2

• The Roadrunners were in high spirits after coming off a series win where they beat Long Beach State in the final two games, one of those wins being one of the three walkoffs the `Runners have earned this season.
• On Tuesday, Bakersfield held the lead for the majority of the game with Fresno State slowly making a comeback until the top of the ninth inning where the Bulldogs would tie up the score at 6-6.
• Bakersfield came to bat during the ninth inning, looking only for a single run to grab the win. Elijah Pelayo managed to get on base with two outs, but he was called out trying to swipe second. Pelayo immediately pleaded for a review of the play, which the umpires eventually reversed as a savvy slide secured the steal.
• With a full count on the board, Bakersfield native Nick Salas stepped back up to the plate looking to play hero in front over 850 fans. Salas singled to left field, bringing Pelayo home and walking off the night with CSUB's third-straight victory.

CSUB 1, CSF 0 – Saturday, Apr. 6 (Game 1)

• The opening game quickly turned into a pitchers’ duel between Bakersfield’s Ryan Verdugo and Cal State Fullerton’s Mikiah Negrete.
• Bakersfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Kobe Silva RBI double, which would prove to be the game-winning run.
• Ryan Verdugo exited the game in the top of the eighth, allowing no runs off of two hits while striking out eight Titans.
• David Villegas relieved Verdugo and went on to record a five-out save, sealing the shutout victory for CSUB.
• The two `Runner pitchers allowed a combined four hits to Cal State Fullerton on the way to Bakersfield’s second shutout of the season.

CSUB 5, CSF 13 – Saturday, Apr. 6 (Game 2)

• Another pitchers’ duel ensued in the nightcap until Bakersfield broke through in the bottom of the fourth.
  • A Kyle Stancato sacrifice bunt plated Cody Hendriks before Cooper Gerecke’s RBI single made it a 2-0 lead for CSUB.
• Nick Salas singled in another run in the fifth inning, making it a 3-0 advantage.
• Fullerton snapped CSUB’s streak of 14-coneseuctive scoreless innings by the `Runner pitchers in the top of the sixth, plating their first run of the series before an error made the score 3-2.
• The `Runners answered right back in the bottom half of the sixth, extending the lead to 4-2 on a Jason Leon RBI double.
• In the top of the seventh, the Titans tied the game with one swing, a two-run homer by Jakob Schardt. That started a 10-run inning, during which CSUB committed three errors as the visitors went ahead 12-4.
• Bakersfield got one run back on a solo shot from Max Bernal, the redshirt freshman’s first collegiate homer.
• Fullerton closed out a 13-5 victory, evening the series at one game apiece and setting up Sunday’s rubber match.

CSUB 5, CSF 4 – Sunday, Apr. 7

• The Titans jumped out to an early, 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run homer from Maddox Latta and led CSUB 3-0 after half an inning.
• Bakersfield answered back with a two-run jack of their own in the bottom of the fourth. The homer came off the bat of Bernal, who smacked his second home run in as many games.
• The `Runners tied the score in the bottom of the sixth on a Kyler Stancato RBI single, but the Titans would regain the lead, 4-3, with an RBI single of their own in the next half inning.
• In the bottom of the seventh, Michael Pollard tied the game at 4-4 when he scored from third on a wild pitch.
• The next inning, Kyler Stancato delivered an RBI double, scoring Jared Bujanda McConnell and putting CSUB in the lead for good.
• David Villegas closed out his second save of the weekend as CSUB clinched the series win.
• Bakersfield's entire pitching line on Sunday featured Bakersfield natives as Villegas (Centennial HS/Bakersfield College) finished the job that was set up by a strong start from Jacob Gutierrez (Ridgeview HS, 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 7 K) and great middle relief from Nick Perryman (Independence HS, 3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K).

• The Cal State Bakersfield beach volleyball team continued the season away this week finishing 1-2 at the Waves Tourney in Malibu.
• Freshmen duo Kaia Fanshier and Ella Ensign finished the week going undefeated.
• Under first-year Head Coach Andy Fulenwider, the `Runners are 13-16 so far with three weeks remaining in the season.

• The Cal State Bakersfield Track and Field program was highlighted once again by the Roadrunner men’s throwing squad, which is ranked #12 in the nation as a group. 
• Over the weekend, CSUB traveled down to SoCal for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. The men in the hammer throw earned a 1-2-3 sweep and for the shot put, the `Runners had two guys place first and second overall.

CSUB at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

• On Saturday, Matthew Garrett, Javier Toro, and Axel Salazar went 1-2-3 in the men’s hammer throw. Garrett won the event with a throw of 204’9” as the lone athlete over 200 feet.
• Toro and Garrett came back later in the day and went 1-2 in the men’s shot put. Toro took the lead with a mark of 54’10”. 
• Freshman Emanuel Banuelos earned a personal best in the shot put, throwing a 45’6.25”. 
• On the women’s side, Jessi Solis placed second overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 171’3”. She was the first collegiate athlete in the event. 
• On the track, Jacob Yagers toed the line in the men’s 800-meter. The junior from Bakersfield clocked in a personal best of 1:54.06, good for fifth overall. He now holds the #12 time in CSUB history. 
• For the women, junior Jaztyn Greer performed well in the hurdle events. Greer placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.08 and second overall in the 400m hurdles, clocking in a 1:04.08. Teammate Julia Stein was close behind in the 400m hurdles; she finished third with a time of 1:04.29. 
• Jahnyl Donaldson-Howden became CSUB’s #8 fastest woman in the 200m when she threw down a 24.72.
• Bakersfield has a busy week ahead with athletes competing in three different meets.

• Cal State Bakersfield’s golf team wrapped up its regular season this week in Arizona.
• The Roadrunners tackled the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, Apr. 3-4, in Maricopa, Ariz.
• CSUB will now set its sights on the Big West Championships, scheduled for Apr. 14-16 in Las Vegas.

• Bakersfield got the lay of the land in Round 1.
  • Iris Han (76) and Sarah Mutai (77) paced CSUB over the opening 18 holes.
• The second round of the day saw an eight-stroke improvement for the team, going from a 327 score to 319.
  • Mutai led the `Runners with another 77 while senior Jefi Dordevic came back to the clubhouse with a 78.
• CSUB finished with its best round of the tournament, a score of 312, improving by seven more strokes compared Round 2.
  • Han and Dordevic both tallied 77s while Nicole Whipple carded a 78 for her best round of the tournament.
• Mutai paced the `Runners on the week with a three-round total of 234 strokes.
  • Han was just two strokes back
• Bakersfield finished last of 21 teams in an huge field, which included several members of the Big West.
