Central Valley Athletes Sign To CSUB

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal State Bakersfield track and field program added two more Central Valley athletes to the 2024-25 roster. Exeter native, Ivy Miller and local standout Rain Gomez are headed to Bakersfield to join the squad.

Miller comes to CSUB from College of the Sequoias just north of Bakersfield in Visalia, Calif. She has spent the last two years as a sprinter and hurdler for the Giants. Miller was the NorCal champion in the women’s 400 hurdles and finished third overall at the California Community College Athletic Association’s State Track and Field Championships.

I am excited to add another Valley product to the program! Ivy is an exceptional hurdler who also will add depth to our relay pools. Ivy competes well when it counts and was a podium finisher in 2023 at the 3C2A state meet in the 400m hurdles,” said Assistant Track and Field Coach, Joshua Biagtan.

“She is a tough competitor as well as a gifted student. We are excited for her to join our Roadrunner family!”

Gomez returns to her hometown after spending the last two years at Fresno State. The North Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College product has shown success in the distance events. Gomez has a personal best of 22:35.9 in the women’s 6k for cross country which would rank her in the CSUB all-time list. In the 1,500m her career best is 4:46.54 which also would rank high up in program history.

“We are excited for Rain’s return to Bakersfield! She has had a great collegiate career, and we are happy for her to finish it off here at home with us,” said Biagtan.

Gomez joins the `Runners for final year as a collegiate athlete and will be a graduate student.

Biagtan added, “Rain will be a key addition for us in Cross Country and will contribute to the distance events. Her athletic and academic background are impeccable, and her academic success is evident as she will be joining us as a graduate student.”
