Parker & Johnson Break School Records at Season Opener

RENO, Nevada - The Cal State Bakersfield Women's Indoor Track & Field program had an outstanding showing at their first meet of the season. The Roadrunners returned home from the Silver State Invitational with three new school records. Sophomore Makiah Parker and Senior Julie Johnson broke their own records that they set a year ago.

In just her second season as Roadrunner, Parker left off where she started. The Big West Freshman of the Year ended the meet with two new school records. On Friday, she crushed her previous record of 25.19 with a new record time of 24.20, good for fifth overall in the event.

Parker continued her momentum on day two of competition. In the prelims of the 60m, she passed her own school record of 7.55 from a year ago, but ultimately outshined in the finals later in the day. She crossed the finish line with a time of 7.43 and placed first overall in the event. After the first week of indoor competition, Parker ranks 23rd in the nation in the 60m and 17th in the 200m.

Julie Johnson opened up the 400m with a new personal best time of 57.18. The Bakersfield native broke her own school record that she set two years ago. Her time was good for fifth overall. She is currently 27th in the country in the event. Johnson also holds the school record in the 300m.

The `Runners will take some time off but will be back in full swing next month on Jan. 9 when they travel to Flagstaff, Arizona, for the  Axe ‘Em Opener.
