RENO, Nevada - The Cal State Bakersfield Women's Indoor Track & Field program had an outstanding showing at their first meet of the season. The Roadrunners returned home from the Silver State Invitational with three new school records. Sophomore Makiah Parker and Senior Julie Johnson broke their own records that they set a year ago.
In just her second season as Roadrunner, Parker left off where she started. The Big West Freshman of the Year ended the meet with two new school records. On Friday, she crushed her previous record of 25.19 with a new record time of 24.20, good for fifth overall in the event.
Parker continued her momentum on day two of competition. In the prelims of the 60m, she passed her own school record of 7.55 from a year ago, but ultimately outshined in the finals later in the day. She crossed the finish line with a time of 7.43 and placed first overall in the event. After the first week of indoor competition, Parker ranks 23rd in the nation in the 60m and 17th in the 200m.
