`Runners Drop DH Against Santa Clara – Wednesday, March 27

• Santa Clara improved to 20-12 on the season with the pair of victories.
• The visiting Broncos took both games by identical scores of 4-1.
• Bakersfield pitcher Anisa Reynolds threw a complete game in the final contest, but came up with a tough loss.
• CSUB was able to muster just four hits across the pair of games.

CSUB 3, UC Davis 0 – Thursday, March 28

• Bakersfield and Davis battled it out through three innings, but the `Runners managed to get on the board first.
  • Karissa Munsey plated Maya Molina-Villarreal on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third.
• CSUB added two more runs in the next inning as Molina-Villarreal hit a double that split the gap in right field, driving in Logan-Ray Gaspar and Kaia Johnson.
• Kirsten Martinez pitched a gem, going five innings and giving up four hits while striking out two Aggies.
  • Only one of those four hits went for extra bases.
• Anisa Reynolds came in relief in the top of the sixth and picked up where Martinez left off, closing out the `Runner shutout.
• CSUB earned its first Big West victory of the season and the team's first shutout of the year.

CSUB 5, UC Davis 7 – Friday, March 29

• The `Runners picked up where they left off Thursday getting on the board in the first inning due to Kaia Johnson reaching on a fielder’s choice plating Maya Williams.
• CSUB added three more runs in the top of the second off a Karissa Munsey triple to right field.
  • Munsey tallied her second three-RBI game this season.
• The Aggies answered back in the bottom of the second, tying it up at four after stringing together a few hits.
• In the top of the third Johnson stole home and took back the `Runner lead 5-4.
  • This stolen base tied the CSUB single-season record of 16.
• UC Davis took their first lead of the week in the bottom half of the third thanks to a two-RBI single up the middle.
• The Aggies added another run to pad their lead 7-5 after a double to left center.
• Anisa Reynolds came in for three innings holding the Aggies scoreless after the fourth inning, but the `Runners could not get anything going offensively.

CSUB 1, UC Davis 7 – Friday, March 29

• Violet Salazar tied the score at 1-1 in the third inning off a single to right field scoring Shaylene Fuimaono.
• The Aggies jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning, and then struck for three in the sixth inning.
• UC Davis held CSUB scoreless after the third inning.
  • The `Runners only had four women reach base safely following the third inning.

• The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team had an exciting four games this week to continue the 2024 season. The Roadrunners faced off against Pepperdine to start off the week before hosting a three-game series against Long Beach State to close out the weekend. 
• Bakersfield took wins in three of the four home games at Hardt Field, having the best week of their season thus far, topping it off with winning the series against Big West foe Long Beach State.
• Hitting .333 for the week, Kobe Silva played a vital role in Bakersfield's offense. He tallied two doubles and three RBI with a .556 slugging percentage while also registering a clutch hit that led to an extra-innings walk-off.
• Two-way player Jacob Gutierrez got hot as well, hitting .364 this week with a .533 on-base percentage.

CSUB 10, Pepperdine 5 – Tuesday, March 26

• Pepperdine struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs off of a bases-loaded opportunity.
• Bakersfield cut the lead in half with one run in the bottom half of the frame getting on the board off a fielder’s choice.
• After the Waves scored in the third inning, the game would remain scoreless until the seventh inning.
  • Pepperdine plated two thanks to a double that split the gap in right center.
  • CSUB would answer back in the bottom half of the seventh, scoring six runs and taking their first lead of the game.
    • The rally started with a Max Bernal single to left field bringing in Noah Alvarez.
    • A hustle infield RBI single by Nick Salas cut into the Waves lead making it 5-3.
    • Jonah Shields dropped a single into center plating Brock Perreira
    • CSUB would tie it up off a wild pitch and Alvarez would strike again with a two-RBI single into right field.
• CSUB added some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to go up 10-5.
• David Villegas picked up the win for the `Runners, throwing three scoreless innings to close out the game.
  • The right hander allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out five Waves.

CSUB 1, Long Beach State 4 – Thursday, Mar. 28

• Long Beach State got the early jump on the `Runners, putting up three runs in the first four innings.
• Bakersfield did not have an answer until the bottom of the eighth inning when Zavien Watson hit a fly out to left field giving Matthew Kurata the opportunity to score for the `Runners.
  • This run would end CSUB’s scoring for the evening.
• The Beach would put up one more run during the top of the ninth to solidify their win, 4-1.

CSUB 2, Long Beach State 1 – Friday, Mar. 29 

• The `Runners took on Long Beach State for the second game of the series under the Friday night lights out at Hardt Field.
• Pitching eight innings of work, graduate student Gary Grosjean gave the Beach's ball club a run for their money.
  • The Bakersfield pitcher held them scoreless for the first three innings, giving up a single run and a scatter of five hits across his total of eight innings of work.
  • Grosjean struck out seven of their players and was an essential part in Bakersfield’s win against LBSU.
• Long Beach struck first again in this game, putting up a single run during the top of the fourth inning.
• Bakersfield would not answer back until the bottom of the eighth when Kyler Stancato singled to left field, scoring Watson and giving the `Runners a much-needed momentum shift.
• CSUB fought off Long Beach with the score remaining 1-1 heading into the top of the tenth inning. NickPerryman stepped up to the mound to shut down LBSU for the final two innings making way for Bakersfield to snatch a victory in the bottom of the tenth.
• Jacob Gutierrez single to third to get the `Runners on the base in the tenth.
  • Jared Bujanda McConnell stepped in as a pinch runner for Gutierrez setting the scene for the `Runners to score.
    • Kobe Silva stepped up to the plate, taking a major swing, doubling down the right field line and bringing the `Runner home to get the best of Long Beach, ending game two of the series 2-1.
• Bakersfield earned their second walk-off win of the season.

CSUB 9, Long Beach State 7 – Saturday, Mar. 30

• Closing the series out on Saturday afternoon, Bakersfield and LBSU would battle for the series win.
• Getting out to an early start, the `Runners put their first mark on the board during the first inning. After having a clutch performance in Game 2, Kobe Silva would lead the `Runners to start off this game, doubling to right field to bring home Nick Salas.
• Bakersfield would continue their scoring for three straight innings, putting up a total of nine runs off eight hits.
  • The majority of their runs would come from the bottom of the fifth inning, where the CSUB put five runs on the board against the LBSU's pitching staff.
  • Their scoring came to an abrupt halt when clouds filled the sky and it began to pour down, causing a 55-minute delay in the game. Although Bakersfield’s offense stopped putting up runs, the `Runner defense held off the Beach
• After the rain delay, Long Beach State put up four more runs to attempt to catch up to Bakersfield, but the CSUB pitching staff and defense held on for the victory.
• CSUB's win marks the club's first series win of the season. The `Runners will be back for more action Tuesday night as they rally for the valley against Fresno State.

• The Cal State Bakersfield beach volleyball team continued the season this week, finishing 2-2 on the road.
• The Roadrunners started the the week in Northridge, Calif., going 0-2. The team faced off against Tulane for the very first time in program history, but lost 4-1. Continuing the day, the team battled against CSUN for the fourth time this season, but fell in a tight, 3-2 ending in CSUN's favor.
• As the `Runners ended the week in Carlsbad, Calif., the team bounced back going 2-0 against Vanguard and Saint Katherine.

• The Cal State Bakersfield Track and Field program battled through windy conditions at the Vince O’Boyle Classic hosted by the UC Irvine Anteaters on Friday.
• Jacob Yagers and Matthew Garrett broke meet records in their respective events over the weekend.

CSUB at Vince O’Boyle Classic

• The all-day meet on Friday began with the hammer throw.
  • Matthew Garrett placed first overall for the men with a mark of 208’8”. His throw is now the new meet record.
  • Teammates Javier Toro and Axel Salazar closely finished behind with second- and fourth-place finishes, respectively. 
• On the women’s side, Jessi Solis finished fourth overall with a hammer throw of 167’7”. 
• Jacob Yagers dominated on the track with a first-place finish in the men’s 1,500-meter race. The Bakersfield native clocked in a new personal best and meet record of 3:52.20. Yagers moved up to 7th on the CSUB all-time list in the event. 
• Toro also threw well in the men’s shot put. He marked in a 52’6.75”, good for third overall. 
• Jahnyl Donaldson-Howden earned herself two personal bests in the 100m (12.07) and the 200m (25.33).
• CSUB will be back in action, Apr. 6, at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
