• The Roadrunners have reset their Division I era single-season record with 48 stolen bases on the year (43, 2014).
  • Three `Runners have stolen seven or more bases, Kaia Johnson (19), Maya Williams (7),  and Aariana Harrison (7).
• Bakersfield native Rylee Price hit .600 (3-for-5) on the weekend tallying an RBI.
• Kaia Johnson added to her stolen base total and leads the `Runners in three-hit games.
• Logan-Ray Gaspar is currently on a six-game reached base streak and closing in on her season-long of nine games.

CSUB 1, Cal Poly 10 – Friday, April 12

• Cal Poly opened the game scorching hot, scoring seven runs on six hits and two errors in the top of the first.
  • Mustang outfielder Jessica Clements, who came into the game as the NCAA Division I leader in batting average (.510), was responsible for four of those seven runs as she scored and hit a bases clearing double.
• The Mustangs' pitching prevented the Roadrunner offense from getting started, retiring the first six batters until freshman Aariana Harrison reached on an infield single.
• Bakersfield got their lone run in the bottom of the fourth when Rylee Price plated Violet Salazar on an RBI single.

CSUB 1, Cal Poly 2 – Friday, April 12

• Cal Poly got on the board in a hurry to start game one with Juju Sargent reaching on an error and scoring Jessica Clements in the top of the first
• Bakersfield responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second as Shaylene Fuimaono plated Hailey Brooks on an RBI double into the right center gap.
• Poly broke the tie in the fifth inning after a CSUB error, going up 2-1.
• Sophia Ramuno came in for the Mustangs and shut down the Roadrunners, pitching the final 2.2 innings.

CSUB 2, Cal Poly 6– Saturday, April 13

• The `Runners nearly broke the scoreless tie in the second inning. Rylee Price hit a line drive single into the center field with Kaia Johnson on second,  but Johnson was thrown out at home in a bang-bang play.
• The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when an RBI single up the middle put the Mustangs ahead 1-0.
• Sophia Ramuno of Cal Poly was dealing Saturday morning as she punched out six Roadrunners.
• Bakersfield's starting pitcher, Kirsten Martinez, threw great as well, allowing just two earned runs across 6.1 innings pitched.
• A throwing error by the Mustangs allowed the `Runners to gain some momentum with Logan-Ray Gaspar reaching first in the bottom frame of the fifth.
  • Maya Molina-Villarreal tied it back up with a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Gaspar.
• Cal Poly regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning following another RBI single.
• Two doubles from Maya Williams and Karissa Munsey tied it back up for the third time this game.
• The Mustangs and `Runners went into extra innings, but Cal Poly took the lead on an RBI single into shallow right field with Williams just missing a diving grab to save a run for Bakersfield.
• Cal Poly would go on to score four runs in the top of the eighth inning and hold on for the 6-2 victory.

• The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team had a whirlwind of a week on the road, starting off their games in Stockton, Calif. against Pacific before finishing the weekend at Cal Poly.
• After dropping a tough game in NorCal, the Roadrunners split a doubleheader against the Mustangs before the series finale was delayed to Monday due to rain on the Central Coast.
• CSUB starting pitcher Ryan Verdugo wowed again, increasing his scoreless innings streak to 17.1 consecutive with another seven shutout innings against Cal Poly.

CSUB 1, Pacific 11 (7 inn.) – Tuesday, April 9

• The Roadrunners started off on the road after being home for two straight weekends, winning six of nine games at Hardt Field.
  • Bakersfield beat Pepperdine and cross-valley rival Fresno State in mid-week contests, and then took both Big West series versus Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton.
• Bakersfield started up north in Stockton taking on Pacific.
• Michael Pollard got the `Runners on the board first drawing a walk that scored Nick Salas in the top of the first inning.
• Pacific responded immediately in the bottom of the first inning, plating three runs. 
• The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth inning scoring twice on back-to-back home runs.
• In the fifth inning, Salas and Jonah Shields both worked walks, but Bakersfield could not capitalize, leaving two `Runners on base.
• Pacific poured it on in the fifth inning, plating six runs on three hits, extending their lead 11-1.
• CSUB failed to produce any more offense the rest of the game, falling in seven innings due to the run rule.

CSUB 2, Cal Poly 7 – Friday, April 12

• In Game 1 against Cal Poly, Bakersfield took the early lead, scoring a single run off Kyler Stancato’s groundout to first base, bringing Jonah Shields home. 
• Starting pitcher, Gary Grosjean held the mustangs off well until the fifth inning where a defensive miscue allowed the inning to continue and four runs to score. After that Cal Poly took the lead and held on to it.
• Bakersfield would only score once more in the top of the seventh when Nick Salas singled to the left side, scoring Jason Leon.

CSUB 5, Cal Poly 0 – Friday, April 12

• With reigning Big West Pitcher of the Week Ryan Verdugo starting on the mound, the `Runners looked to hold off the Mustangs in Game 2 on Friday night.
• For the third game in a row, Bakersfield took an early lead, earning a run against off a Kyle Stancato hit, where he doubled down the left field line to score in Nick Salas. 
• Holding Cal Poly’s offense quiet was none other than starting pitcher Verdugo. He showed out on the mound again for the second weekend in a row for the `Runners. Pitching seven innings of no run baseball, the junior struck out six Mustangs while only giving up a scatter of seven hits with only one being a double.
  • Verdugo has now thrown 17.1 consecutive innings without giving a run up.
• Bakersfield's pitching staff made a huge impact, tagging in relief from redshirt sophomore Nick Perry, who closed out the shutout game for the `Runners.
  • The lefthander has allowed just a single run over his last 7.2 innings of work as a relief pitcher.
• The `Runners also put up some great work at the plate, taking advantage of having eight hits to score five runs. Cody Hendriks and Jason helped lead the offensive effort, with both tallying two hits and an RBI.

• The Cal State Bakersfield beach volleyball team continued the season at home this week against CSUN for Senior Day.
  • CSUB celebrated the career of one senior, Pearl Moore, who earned her 29th career victory and now ranks 9th all-time in CSUB's career records.
• The Roadrunners defeated the Matadors in a tight, 3-2 finish. This now makes the series 3-2 in favor of the Matadors for the 2024 season.

• Senior Helena Valentic was the biggest highlight from this week’s three-meet trip in SoCal from Wednesday-Saturday.
• The Cal State Bakersfield throwers had another dominating week of competition with multiple personal bests in the hammer throw and shot put. 
• The Roadrunners started off the week at the Cal State LA Twilight on Wednesday and Thursday. Valentic was the lone CSUB athlete at the Leopard Distance Carnival on Friday. Bakersfield closed out the week and the popular Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday. 

CSUB at Cal State LA Twilight 

• Matthew Garrett won the men’s hammer throw for the fourth time this season. Garrett threw a 210’9”, just shy of his personal best. The Bakersfield native placed second in the men’s shot put with a mark of 53’7.5”. 
• Teammate Javier Toro placed first in the shot put with a throw of 55’8.25”. 
• Axel Salazar had a solid outing out on the field with a new personal best of 188’10” in the hammer throw. 
• On the women’s side, Jessi Solis continues to post impressive and consistent marks. Solis had a hammer throw of 174’6” for a personal record. 

CSUB at Leopard Distance Carnival

• Helena Valentic raced the women’s 3,000m steeplechase in a new CSUB school record. Her time of 10:53.88 made her the first Bakersfield athlete to break the 11-minute barrier. Former `Runner Alyssa Lewis held the previous record of 11:03.21 (2007). Valentic now holds the 2,000m steeplechase and 3,000m steeplechase records for the program and ranks fourth in The Big West in the 3000m steeplechase.
• Alex Cuevas ran the 5,000m in a new personal best of 15:37.71. Cuevas now has the 17th-fastest time in CSUB history.

CSUB at Bryan Clay Invitational

• The Bryan Clay Invitational was disrupted by wind and rain all day. However, junior `Runner Jacob Yagers performed well. 
• Yagers ended the long day with a 1,500m race at 11:30 p.m. The junior won his race in a new CSUB #3 all-time performance of 3:47.76, earning a five-second PR.

• Cal State Bakersfield’s swim & dive team sent a pair of Roadrunners to the TYR Pro Series meet in San Antionio, Texas.
• Sophomore swimmers Arthur Schneider and Vili Sivec represented Bakersfield well at the elite-level meet.
• Sivec continued to shine among some of the best swimmers in the world, posting automatic cuts for the European Championships in June, which will serve as his final opportunity to qualify to represent Croatia in the 2024 Olympics.

CSUB at TYR Pro Series

• Thursday's first day of action opened with Schneider posting a personal best time of 52.06 in the 100-meter freestyle.
• Later in the morning, Sivec earned a Top 8 spot in the evening's A-finals in the 200-meter butterfly, where he ultimately placed seventh overall.
  • Sivec's swam in the finals against some elite company, including Leon Marchand (WR holder), Chase Kalisz (Olympic Champ), Luca Urlando (US record holder), and Ilya Kharun (NCAA record holder).
• Later in the morning, Sivec earned a Top 8 spot in the evening's A-finals in the 200-meter butterfly, where he ultimately placed seventh overall.
• On Day 2, Sivec resent the CSUB long course record in the 100m fly (53.26) while winning the C-finals.
• Closing out the meet on Saturday, Sivec posted the second-fastest 50m time (22.95) in CSUB history, behind only Chris Pipes, while finishing 32nd overall in a huge field of 106 athletes.
