• CSUB vs. the field:
  • Utah State
    • Bakersfield is 5-5 all-time versus the Aggies.
      • Dropped the last three, two coming last season in the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament
    • The Aggies went 2-2 over the weekend with wins over Portland State and UC Riverside
  • California Baptist State
    • CSUB is 2-1 all-time versus the Lancers.
    • Last matchup came in 2019 in Bakersfield, where the `Runners won both games 3-1 and 1-0.
    • The Lancers enter this weekend 3-2 with wins over Fairleigh Dickinson Univeristy and UC San Diego.
  • Weber State
    • Bakersfield holds a 2-1 record versus Weber State
    • Last meeting came in 2016, but before that 2012.
    • The Wildcats started the year 1-4, with a 10-5 win over Maine.

• The Cal State Bakersfield's baseball team is back in action to kick off their 2024 season.
  • Pre-conference play begins this Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Surprise Arizona, where the Roadrunners will take on the Minnesota Gophers to start of the College Baseball Classic.
• The Roadrunners will also see New Mexico twice and Oregon State during the four-day tournament.
• CSUB has 16 newcomers and 17 returners on the 2024 squad. 

 CSUB vs. Minnesota (0-0)

• Friday, Feb. 16, 5  p.m. (PT), at Surprise, Ariz.
• Bakersfield starts of the 2024 season against Minnesota, who is part of the Big Ten.
• The `Runners have never come head-to-head with the Gophers until this weekend.
• Minnesota is led by legendary coach John Anderson who has 1,365 career victories which is the most in the Big Ten Conference history.

 CSUB vs. New Mexico (0-0)

• Saturday, Feb. 17, 5  p.m. (PT) and Monday, Feb. 19, 2  p.m. (PT), at Surprise, Ariz.
• Day two of the tournament, the `Runners compete against the New Mexico Lobos, who Bakersfield has not seen before either.
• CSUB will compete twice during the tournament against the Mountain West team, looking to go 2-0 to start of the season.

 CSUB vs. Oregon State (0-0)

• Sunday, Feb. 18, 12  p.m. (PT), at Surprise, Ariz.
• During the final day of the tournament, Bakersfield will face off against Head Coach Jeremy Beard’s alma mater.
• Beard immediately began a 24-year coaching career following his playing career at Oregon State, serving as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Beavers.
• The `Runners have not gone into competition before with Oregon State as well, so it’ll be a whole tournament of meeting new opponents.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball team is coming off a big win against the Cal State Fullerton Titans.
• This week the Roadrunners will go 1-1 on the road and in the Icardo Center.
  • Starting off on Thursday,  CSUB will take on CSUN on the road and is set to wrap up the weekend with a game against the UC Irvine Anteaters that will celebrate National Girl's and Women in Sports Day.

 CSUB @ CSUN (2-21, 0-13 BW)

• Thursday, Feb. 15, 6  p.m. (PT), at Northridge, Calif.
• Bakersfield will be on the road to go up against CSUN for the second time this season, looking to go 2-0 for a clean sweep against the Matadors, after beating them earlier on in the Icardo Center.
• CSUN is currently dead last in the conference, with zero wins in the Big West and only two wins of 21 for the year.
• Bakersfield will be playing at their home this Thursday, where Northridge won their two games for the season.

 CSUB vs. UC Irvine (15-7, 10-3 BW) - National Girl's and Women in Sports Day

• Saturday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m. (PT) vs. Bakersfield, Calif.
• CSUB will be celebrating National Girl's and Women in Sports Day this Saturday at the women’s basketball game.
  • A clinic will be held ahead of the game where other CSUB women athletes will teach and interact with the younger local girl community, showing off their sports and learning from keynote Speaker, Veronica Bethea-Amey,
• The game will kick off at 2 pm, who is currently first in the conference.
• Earlier this season Bakersfield lost, but will have the home court advantage to take them on.

• Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

CSUB vs. CSUN (16-9, 7-6 BW) – Rivalry Night, Celebrate the 661

• Thursday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m. (PT), at Bakersfield, Calif.
• CSUN comes to Bakersfield after losing to CSUB at home on January 25th, 64-56
• The last matchup was tight between the two, till Bakersfield went on a 10-2 run to close out the game.
• The Matadors enter this game on a three-game win streak beating UC Riverside, Cal Poly, and Santa Barbara.
• Since joining the Big West, the `Runners enjoy a 5-3 record vs. Northridge.
  • Two of these victories came during the Big West Championships in Henderson, Nevada.

CSUB @ UC Irvine (18-7, 11-2 BW)

• Saturday, Feb. 17, 7 p.m. (PT) at Irvine, Calif.
• Bakersfield enters this matchup on a six-game losing streak versus UCI.
  • CSUB’s last win was in 2021 in Irvine, 62-57.
  • CSUB is 2-10 head-to-head with the Anteaters.
• The last matchup between the two was in the Icardo to open Big West play at home where the `Runners lost 75-56.Bakersfield comes into this matchup on a four-game losing streak when playing Cal State Fullerton.

• New Head Coach Katy Barrett Baxter guided the `Runners through a successful Fall season
• Bakersfield posted a 304.8 stroke average through four tournaments, three strokes lower than the 2022-23 team’s overall average.
• Sophomore Sarah Mutai reset Cal State Bakersfield's single-round record with a 3-under-par 69 in the team's season-opening tournament.
• Mutai tied for the team lead in scoring average last year and is pacing the `Runners again so far this season at 73.25.
• Bakersfield native Iris Han continues to be one of the top `Runner contributors while fellow local product Maci Mills recently joined the squad as a mid-season transfer.

CSUB at BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate

• The Roadrunner women’s golf team will keep Spring competition going this weekend with their first tournament after their winter break.
• Bowling Green is headed West to host the tourney that will feature 14 teams, including Grand Canyon, Creighton, Butler, Dayton, and Toledo.

The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team will wrap up dual season on the road this weekend. The Roadrunners have the Pac-12 Championships on the horizon, but first, they will take on Hofstra and California Baptist in one final tri-dual.

CSUB at California Baptist & Hofstra - Feb. 18, Riverside, Calif.

• The Roadrunners have a pair of duals lined up in SoCal on Saturday.
• CSUB will kick off the day with a dual against Hofstra (7-4) at 3 p.m. (PT).
  • The Pride lost their most recent match, 31-6 against Binghamton, but had won four straight prior to that.
  • SIUE boasts one ranked wrestler in heavyweight Keaton Kluever, ranked 21st in the nation at his weight class.
  • Saturday’s clash will be just the second all-time between CSUB and Hofstra, and the first meeting since 1981.
    • Bakersfield won that match 40-3
• Right after facing Hofstra, Bakersfield will tackle California Baptist (4-9) at 4:30 p.m. (PT).
  • CBU is coming off a 36-9 loss against #13 Northern Iowa, but the Lancers handed #19 Air Force a 21-15 loss the weekend prior.
  • The Lancers will be busy this weekend, hosting Cal Poly the night before welcoming CSUB and Hofstra.
  • CBU’s roster features one ranked wrestlers in 125-pounder (#28) Elijah Griffin.
  • CSUB is 11-1 all-time against California Baptist, but the Lancers’ first win the all-time series came last season.
    • CBU knocked off the `Runners in the Icardo Center, 23-17, in a back and forth match that saw six lead changes.
• The match against CBU will be live streamed, but CSUB’s battle with Hofstra will not.

The Cal State Bakersfield men's and women's track and field teams will be at the Sunbird Invitational hosted by Fresno Pacific as a preseason session before opening up the 2024 outdoor season next month. The Roadrunners will have the men's team out there in uniform as well as several women. 

CSUB at Sunbird Invitational - Saturday, Feb. 17, All Day

• The men's team is led by a strong group of throwers who are set to compete in the hammer throw and the shot put. Matthew Garrett, Javier Toro, Axel Salazar, and newcomer Emanuel Banuelos are ready to show up. 
• Skyblue Gonzales and Kenny Gugnao lead the way in the sprints for CSUB men's team. Gonzales finished ninth overall in the Big West last year. He looks to build off a season where he executed a personal best in the 400m almost every time he stepped on the track. Both men will compete in the 400m and the 4x400m relay team. 
• Newcomers Matthew Karapetyan, Verquel Turner, Meshach Davis, Jacob Mounmanivong, and Anthony Rios are set for the sprints/relays. 
• Jacob Yagers put up strong performances in the distance events last year. He put up depth chart performances in both the 1500m and 5000m in 2023. This Saturday he will represent Bakersfield in the 1500m and 3000m. 
• On the women's side, Jessi Solis is coming off a strong indoor season where she was the top CSUB performer at every meet. She is putting down the weight throw and switches her focus to the hammer throw. 
• Julia Stein will be competing in the 100mH and 400mH where she is on the CSUB all-time list for both events. Stein is a three-time Big West 400mH finalist.
