CSUB Athlete of the Week: Jake Andrews

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Jake Andrews has earned Cal State Bakersfield athlete of the week honors after posting another impressive performance during the Norman Duals in Oklahoma this past weekend. This week's nod for Andrews marks the second-straight Roadrunner wrestler to nab the honor.

A nationally-ranked wrestler in the heavyweight division, Andrews improved to 9-2 on the season with a perfect weekend in Oklahoma.

Andrews opened the action with a 4-0 decision over Chattanooga's Ethan Vergara, a young wrestler who traveled to Paris this Summer as a training partner for Team Puerto Rico Olympians. In Bakersfield's dual against host Oklahoma, Andrews dominated overtime for a 6-1 victory over Ricky Thomas, a 2024 Oklahoma High School State Champion. Bakersfield's heavyweight then made it a perfect day with a 10-1 major decision over his counterpart from Southeast Community College.
