• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team (6-22, 3-13 Big West) ends the 2025 season this week with its final two matches being on the road. 
• The new-look Roadrunners are building team chemistry from the ground up as the CSUB roster features only one returner who was on the squad last Fall. 
• The `Runners are led by co-interim Head Coaches, Felipe Nogueira and Cinthia Angus, both of whom have previous head coaching experience. 
• CSUB’s fresh-faced roster welcomes back one returner, Druegan Davis, as well as 14 newcomers. Highlights of a few first-time `Runners: 
  • Nicole Zake (So.): Transferred to CSUB in December from Virginia Tech 
  • Suelen Lima (So.): Spent freshman season at William Carey University, helping the Crusaders post a 29-11 record and reach the NAIA National Tournament 
  • Luiza Da Cruz (Jr.): Led Miami Dade College to NJCAA Runner-Up finishes in 2023 and 2024, falling to her now-teammate Nele Broszat’s team in the National Championship a year ago. 
• Bakersfield has been battling in its Big West matches; this week they split their 2 games winning vs Fullerton and losing to Irvine. 

CSUB at. UC Riverside (8-18, 4-12 BW) 

• The `Runners head out to Riverside to face the Highlanders:

• CSUB and UC Riverside will be meeting for the 16th time in the all-time series. 
  • The Roadrunners hold a narrow, 8-7 advantage in the series. 
• A month ago in Bakersfield, the Highlanders narrowly beat the `Runners in the final set escaping with a 3-2 victory. 
• CSUB looks to return the favor by going out and beating the Highlanders on the road to end their season on a high note. 

CSUB at UC Davis (18-6, 14-2 BW) 

• The `Runners will end the season by facing the #1 team in the Big West:

• CSUB gears up for a tough battle in their 15th all time matchup vs the Aggies. The series lead is in favor of UC Davis as they hold a 9-5 advantage and are currently on a 3-game win streak against CSUB. 
• Last month in Bakersfield, the Aggies came into the Icardo Center and walked out with a 3-0 win. 
• CSUB is entering the game as a heavy underdog so they will attempt to play spoiler and ruin the Aggies senior day while also shaking up the top of the standings. The ‘Runners will use this game as an opportunity to build a sense of confidence and momentum that they can use to propel them forward for next year. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield men’s basketball team (2-3) will host a home game before heading out to embark on an extended road trip. The ‘Runners look to bounce back after a pair of tough road losses to Ole Miss and Portland State. 
• The Roadrunners are under new leadership as Acting Head Coach Mike Scott took over the helm five weeks before the start of the season. 
  • Scott is in his ninth season with the `Runners, previously serving as an Assistant Coach prior to being elevated to the program’s leader. 
• Cal State Bakersfield returns six men from last year’s squad while welcoming eight newcomers to the mix. 
• The `Runner roster features four veterans who are expected to set the standard: guard CJ Hardy, forward Tom Mark, guard/forward Jaden Alexander, and guard Kadar Waller. 
• Coach Scott looks to a group of newcomers to spark the squad with fresh energy. To a highlight a few: guard Dailin Smith, guard/forward AJ George, center Pierre Genesté, and forward Ronald Jessamy. 
• The `Runners set out for their sixth season as members of The Big West, looking to make a run at their first title.

• CSUB will play its third game of the season in the Icardo Center, so far, the ‘Runners are undefeated at home this season bolstering a 2-0 record. 
  • Bakersfield boasts an all-time record of 282-74 (.792) in the Icardo Center since it opened in 1989. 
• Bakersfield and Mississippi Valley State will be meeting for only the second time in program history. The first encounter was in 2012 where CSUB came out victorious 69-64. 
• The Devils are off to a 1-5 start to the season but have been competitive in their most recent games. 

CSUB at Florida State (2-1) 

• CSUB heads out on the road to face an elite Florida State team:

• CSUB will look to earn their first road win of the season on the Seminoles' home court. 
• The ‘Runners and the Seminoles have only played once in the all-time series with Florida State coming out on top 96-66 in a game held all the way back in 1974. 
• CSUB hopes to start their road trip with a big momentum boost by knocking off a tough Seminoles team whose only loss this year was by 2 points to #10 Florida. 

• The Roadrunner women’s basketball team will continue their 4-game road trip by heading out to Omaha then traveling up to Wichita. 
• Cal State Bakersfield looks to second-year Head Coach Ari Wideman to lead the way. 
  • Wideman welcomed three new assistant coaches after her first season, looking to infuse the program with fresh energy. 
• Wideman’s roster is heavily composed of newcomers while two experienced `Runners return for another year in the Blue and Gold. 
• CSUB will look to a pair of veterans in guard/forward Marley Longi and guard Alli Dioli to lead by example. 
  • Freshman Ophelia Powell joined the `Runners midway through the previous season and will get her first chance on the court this year. 
• Coach Wideman reloaded the `Runner lineup with 10 newcomers who look to make their mark on Bakersfield’s Blue court. To name a few: guards Chrishawn Coleman, Maria Dias, and Morgan Hawkins as well as post players Tena Ikidi and Dae’Jaidence Kincade. 
• The `Runners have embarked on their sixth season as members of The Big West, pushing for a return to the conference tournament in March after a two-year absence. 

CSUB at Omaha (1-4) 

• Cal State Bakersfield seeks out its first win of the season vs the Mavericks:

• CSUB and Omaha are meeting for the first time since 2023 in which Omaha came out victorious 87-79 at home. 
• The all-time series is tied at 3-3 with neither team ever winning two games in a row in the even matchup. 
• Both teams enter the game on losing streaks as they fight to steer the ship and get back in the win column. 

CSUB at Wichita State (1-3) 

• Cal State Bakersfield will head out to Wichita to continue their road trip:

• CSUB and Wichita State will meet for the second consecutive year after having never played each other prior.

• The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling program will continue the 2025-26 season with a return to the Icardo Center for an annual event. 
• Seventh-year Head Coach Luke Smith aims to continue momentum built by his program last season. 
  • Smith’s squad qualified three Roadrunners for the 2025 NCAA Championships while 197 pounder AJ Ferrari earned Bakersfield’s first All-American honors in a decade. 
• The CSUB roster boasts a strong mix of returning veterans as well as fresh talent. 
• Smith will look to NCAA Qualifier and nationally-ranked Richard Castro-Sandoval (125) to set the tone heading into a new year. 
  • The `Runners will also rely on veterans like Guillermo Escobedo, Devyn Flores-Che, Chris Neal, Santino Sanchez, and Hayden Zinkin to lead the way. 
•  CSUB has several exciting newcomers ready to make their mark. To name a few: freshman RJ Jones, redshirt sophomore Jeremy Manibog, sophomore Angel Cervantes, and redshirt senior Mason Cover. 

CSUB vs. Roadrunner Open 

• The `Runners will host the 14th edition of their annual home tournament:

• At the 2024 edition of the RR Open, Jake Andrews won the heavyweight bracket with a thrilling victory over a ranked foe from Cal Poly. 
• In 2025, the 125-pound bracket looks to be loaded with a potential for three nationally-ranked wrestlers competing.

• The 2025-26 season continues for the Cal State Bakersfield swim & dive programs as the Roadrunners are ready for their mid-season meet at a new location. 
  • The past few years, CSUB’s swimmers have gone to Princeton or Utah, but the `Runners are headed to Boise this season. 
• Bakersfield’s swim & dive teams welcome back a strong core of veterans while adding a nice complement of newcomers to the mix. 
• Bugby and the `Runners have selected a set of veteran leaders to guide each of his squads as team captains:

• The `Runners are in their second season as members of The Big West as the conference added swim & dive as a sponsored sport just a year ago. 
  • In its first year at the Big West Championships, CSUB won 9 medals and set seven `Runner records along with three Big West records.
