  • CSUB's only defeat in 2023 came at the hands of No. 21 San Diego State, which is now 6-0-1.
• The `Runners rank 11th in NCAA Division I with a 0.625 Goals Against Average.
  • For perspective, that means that every 3 games the `Runners average less than 2 goals allowed to their opponents combined.
• Bryson Hankins, a Bakersfield native and a team captain, is one of the team's top contributors
  • The defender plays a huge factor in CSUB's defensive prowess, but he also is second on the team in goals (2) and points (6). 

CSUB 1, Santa Clara 1

• Santa Clara’s Will Wiersdorf broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute.
• Despite CSUB controlling the match for most of the first half, the Broncos outshot CSUB 5-3 in the opening period.
• Santa Clara continued to lead the match until Bryson Hankins equalized the score in the 66th minute.
  • Hankins nailed a wonder-strike from over 30 yards out on an assist from Nathan Jimenez.
• Santa Clara nearly stole the game in the waning moments, but a team save off the goal line kept the match tied.
• Seven of CSUB’s eight shots were on goal, while Santa Clara had a total of 10 shots with just half being on target.

• The Cal State Bakersfield Cross Country team ran tough at Saturday’s Master’s Invitational as Helena Valentic continues to impress across all distances.
• Bakersfield ran the 6,000-meter distance for the first time this season.
• The senior finished the 6k 18th overall out of 194 athletes with a new personal-best finish of 22:04.8, which ranks No. 2 all-time for CSUB. It is the 7th straight meet the Croatian finished first for the Roadrunners, dating back to 09/03/2022.
• Junior Neyda Martinez ran a personal best time of 24:13.1, good for second on the team and 82nd overall.
• Alea Gaona, Alicia Muralles, and Valerie Garcia rounded out the scoring five.
• The `Runners finished 14th out of 16 schools.
• The women will take a few weeks off from competition and then will head up north for the Bronco Challenge in Sunnyvale, Calif. on October 14th.

• The Cal State Bakersfield Women’s Soccer team hosted UC Davis for the first conference home match of the year on Sunday, as the `Runners had a true challenge on their hands with last year’s second-place team in the Big West.
• After a hard-fought back-and-forth affair in Bakersfield, the Roadrunners were able to pull back a 2-2 draw after going down twice in the game to remain undefeated in Big West play.

CSUB 2, UC Davis 2

• The `Runners deployed an aggressive and forward-thinking style early in the first half, which eventually got them in trouble as UC Davis’ Sarah Canavan maneuvered her way through two Bakersfield defenders to put one over the head of Hollee Hercik just 25 minutes in.
• It did not take CSUB much time to respond, as Nicola Lebakos had a break of her own thanks to dual headers from Selena Hernandez and Karen Flores, tying the game in the 37th minute.
• The beginning of the second half saw both teams play more conservatively to avoid similar first-half breakaway opportunities. However, Bakersfield made a crucial mistake in its own penalty area with a handball that led to a UC Davis penalty kick goal off the foot of Leslie Fregoso.
• Bakersfield immediately kicked it into overdrive with Bernardo Silva belting orders from the sideline and the `Runners responding in-kind, as Dome Rodriguez tied the game 2-2 with a clutch time header via free kick from Alaina Granger.
• CSUB fended off the Aggies to rescue a draw from the jaws of potential defeat and stay unbeaten in the Big West after two games.
• Next week, the `Runners split games between home and the road, traveling to CSUN on Sunday before returning to host Long Beach State in Bakersfield on Sunday.

• After outlasting CSUN 3-2 on Tuesday, the Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team is a perfect 4-0 in home matches this season.
• In a well-balanced attack, Bakersfield native Ava Palm is the team's offensive leader, averaging over 2.5 kills pert set.
• After suffering a season-ending shoulder surgery just one week into her rookie campaign, Breklyn Pulling rehabbed and is back strong than ever as a redshirt freshman.
  • The dual threat is one of the top blockers in the Big West and is one of CSUB's top offensive weapons as well.

CSUB 3, CSUN 2

• Cal State Bakersfield  opened Big West play with a thrilling, five-set victory over CSUN on Tuesday night in the Icardo Center.
• Playing in front of 543 fans, the biggest home attendance (outside of Education Days) since CSUB’s very first Big West contest back in 2021, the Roadrunners outlasted the visting Matadors in the fifth set, 15-11.
• CSUB was led by Bakersfield native Ava Palm, who put on a show in front of the home crowd. Palm tallied a match-high 18 kills to go with 16 digs and five blocks on the way to another double-double.
• On the other side of the net, CSUN had some Bakersfield natives of its own step up, including Carisa Barron. The former Liberty High School Patriot tallied her second triple-double (16 kills, 17 assists, 12 digs), but the effort was not quite enough for the Matadors to push past the `Runners.
• The `Runners also looked to Paige Dugan (14 kills, five digs), Breklyn Pulling (13 kills, five blocks), and Nene Hawkins (39 assists, nine digs) to lead the way in the victory.

CSUB 0, Hawai'i 3

• Traveling to Paradise to take on reigning Big West Champions Hawai'i, Bakersfield came out flat and was unable to overcome the Rainbow Wahine.
• Freshman Grace Moss tallied an impressive 14 digs in the three-set match.
• Breklyn Pulling led all `Runners with nine kills while freshman Sydney Dunning added five kills on .273 hitting.

• Sophomore Sarah Mutai posted a new career-low 54-hole tournament score while finishing in the Top 20 at the Couer d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational.
• Senior Jefi Dordevic also carded a career-best result, improving her previous best tournament by two strokes.
• As a team, Bakersfield recorded the fifth-lowest 54-hole tournament team score in program history, fighting a tough course with plenty of water hazards for a solid finish.

`Runners wrap up Couer d'Alene Invitational

• Bakersfield battled in a tough field through Round 1 at the Gonzaga's tournament in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
  • Sarah Mutai paced the `Runners with a first-round card of 72 (+1).
  • Four `Runners scored in the 70s in the opening round.
• In Round 2, the `Runners improved by three strokes as a team thanks to a great start.
  • Jefi Doredevic led CSUB with a 73 on Monday, followed closely behind by 74s from Mutai and Iris Han
  • Christy Mae Saban improved her first-round score by 6 strokes, getting into the scoring four with a 79 in Round 2.
• CSUB held off from a slow start in Round 3 to finish with 908 strokes (+56), the fifth-best 54-hole tournament team score in `Runner history.
  • Mutai posted her best round of the tournament (70), finishing tied for 19th place out of 73 student-athletes. Her 54-hole total of 217 strokes (+4) ranks third in the CSUB record books.
  • Dordevic (225) came back to the clubhouse eight strokes behind Mutai to finish second for the `Runners.
  • Han (231) and Whipple (235) round out the scoring four and Bakersfield's top four placers.
