Update on Men’s Basketball `Runner Pros

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A total of eight former California State University, Bakersfield men's basketball players will appear on professional or national team rosters this upcoming 2023-24 season. Taze Moore highlights `Runners in the NBA as he signed with the Dallas Mavericks on an Exhibit 10 contract. 

Tyrone White – Mineros de Zacatecas

A 2013 graduate of CSUB, is continuing his pro career in Mexico recently signed with Mineros de Zacatecas. White spent the 2022-23 season with Abejas de Léon in Mexico and Gimnasia Indalo in Argentina. With Abejas de Léon, he averaged 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 18 games, with Gimansia Indalo he averaged 13.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 31 games. 

White played in 58 games in his time with the Roadrunners, in that time he averaged 7.16 points, 2.49 rebounds, and 1.32 assists per game. 

Aly Ahmed – Egypt National Team

The 2016 CSUB graduate is appearing in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup with Egypt. After his time as a `Runner, Ahmed played in the Canada NBL where he played for Cape Brenton H. and Saint John Riptide. With Cape Brenton H., Ahmed averaged 8.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 0.4 assists in 21 games. Later on in the 2017-18 season he appeared in 15 games with Saint John Riptide and averaged 11.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. 

In 2016, Ahmed played a huge role in helping Bakersfield win the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) and make its first March Madness appearance, averaging 13 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. He finished his career fifth all-time in CSUB history with 588 rebounds, tenth with 1,075 points, and fourth with 79 blocks, and also became became sixth 'Runner ever to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career.

Dedrick Basile – U.M.F. Grindavik (Iceland-Subway League) 

On July 1, 2023, Basile signed with U.M.F. Grindavik. Basile has spent the last two seasons with UMFN Njardvik. In 29 Subway League games last season, he was the league's fifth best scorer averaging 19.8 points, while recording 4.4 rebounds, 7.3 assists (good for top three in the league), and 1.9 steals per game. The former Bakersfield point guard helped UMFN Njardvik end the regular season with the second-best record in the league and was able to advance to the league semifinals. He earned several honors over the past year, he was voted to Eurobasket.com Icelandic League All-Imports Team, League Player of the Week three times, and Eurokbasket.com All-Icelandic League Second Team.  

Basile graduated from CSUB in 2017 and played a pivotal role in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons for the Roadrunners. The Houston native helped lead the `Runners to their first-ever NCAA Division I Tournament appearance while earning WAC Tournament MVP honors. He also helped CSUB reach the school's first National Invitational Tournament appearance while also becoming the first 8 seed in NIT history to reach the NIT semifinals.  

While at CSUB Basile scored 838 points while shooting at a 45.3% clip in 68 games in his two seasons with the Roadrunners.  

Taze Moore – Dallas Mavericks 

Moore earned an Exhibit 10 contract with the Dallas Mavericks after a strong showing in the 2023 NBA Summer League helping the Mavericks to a 4-1 record. He averaged 7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. 

The former Roadrunner went undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft but was selected 9th overall in the NBA G League draft by the Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks affiliate. Moore played the 2022-23 season primarily in the NBA G League with the Legends and made 24 appearances. He averaged 13.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 33.5 minutes per game.  

Moore graduated from Cal State Bakersfield in 2021, scoring 884 points in his four-year career with CSUB before transferring to the University of Houston for his final year of eligibility. In 108 games with Bakersfield, he averaged 8.2 points, 1.8 assists, while shooting 47% from the field. In his final year with the `Runners, Moore earned First Team All-Big West honors. He led the team in scoring (12.2) free throw percentage (82.8), and steals (30), also ranking Top 3 on the squad in rebounding (4.0), assists (63), and blocks (14).  

Justin McCall – Akademik Plovdiv 

The Bakersfield native recently agreed to terms with Akademik Plovdiv in Bulgaria for the 2023-24 season. McCall spent the last season at Valmeiera Glass in Latvian LBL league. The Plovdiv Forward gained plenty of exposure this past season playing in three different leagues last year. In three LBL games he averaged 14.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks. McCall also played in 26 games averaging 11.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in Lat-Est BL. To round out the 2022-23 season in European North Basketball League where he appeared in six games, he averaged 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. 

A 2022 graduate from CSUB, McCall was the only `Runners to start in all 27 games in the 2021-22 season leading the team in scoring (11.4), field goal percentage (.496), and minutes played (710/26.3) and ranked second in rebounding (4.5). McCall finds himself in the CSUB record books ranking second all-time with 138 games played in his five-year career with the Roadrunners. He finished his college career with 842 points and 426 rebounds.  

Justin Edler-Davis – KB Peja (Superliga) 

Edler-Davis recently signed with KB Peja in Kosovo for the 2023-24 season after spending the last season with Lusitania in the Portuguese Liga Betclic. The former Roadrunner put together an impressive showing in the 22 games he appeared in with Lusitania. Edler-Davis averaged 15.8 points, 8.5 rebounds (#3 in the league), 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. This effort helped Lusitania make it to the Portuguese Cup Semifinals.  

The San Diego native graduated from CSUB in 2022 after spending six years with the Roadrunners. During those six years he played his way into several categories in the CSUB record book. Edler-Davis graduated as the program's all-time leader in career games played (148), ranked 8th in points scored (1,206), 3rd in rebounds (718), and 5th in three-points made (164). He also became the fourth Roadrunner all-time to tally 1,000+ points and 600+ rebounds in a career. In 2020-21 he was voted Big West All-Conference Honorable Mention. 

Travis Henson – Iserlohn Kangaroos 

The 2023 graduate recently agreed to terms with the Iserlohn Kangaroos and will begin his pro career in Germany. Henson is penciled in to be the starting Power Forward for the Kangaroos in the 2023-24 season. 

Henson spent three seasons with CSUB he scored 428 points averaging 5.3 per game. Henson came on strong toward the end of the 2022-23 campaign averaging 13.7 points per game over the final 13 contests and scored 15+ points in four of those thirteen. In his final season with the `Runners, Henson averaged 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 22.8 minutes per game. He also led the team in blocks (37) and ranked second in the Big West for blocks per game (1.2).  

Cameron "Beno" Smith – Khuleguud Broncos 

Another 2023 graduate is beginning his pro basketball career, and recently agreed to terms with the Khuleguud Broncos in Mongolia for the 2023-24 season.  

Smith spent the last three seasons at Bakersfield. During his final season, he averaged 8.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 26.5 minutes per game. Beno scored 10+ points on in 15 games and grabbed double digit rebounds four times. He finished his college career with 529 points and 352 rebounds.
