Women's Soccer readies for season opener

Men's Soccer wraps up pre-season exhibitions

After wrapping up the pre-season exhibition slate with a hard-fought 1-0 defeat at Saint Mary's, Head Coach Bernardo Silva is set to open the season with an away day at his former school Sacramento State where he was the associate head coach since 2019.
Sacramento, Calif., 12 p.m. (PT) kickoff
Note the time change, as the game was previously set to start at 4 p.m. but has since changed to 12 p.m. due to a high heat advisory. Live stream and live stats information remain the same.
Although the all-time record against Sac State lands 1-8-2 in favor of the Hornets, the `Runners have fought them to draws each of the last two years during pre-season exhibition matches. Since CSUB's last win against Sac State in 2010, no game has been decided by more than two goals, which goes to show how consistently well-matched these opponents are.
With this being Bernardo Silva's first full-time Head Coach position, he will surely be looking to get one over his former team and prove what made him such a well-loved leader at all of his previous schools.
Bakersfield finally gets its first home game in a battle for the Central Valley against cross-highway rivals Fresno State. Let's Get Rowdy for the Valley!
Main Soccer Field, kickoff at 6 p.m. (PT)
Like Bakersfield, Fresno State is experiencing a rebuild in the post-COVID athletics world after going 1-14-2 last season. The `Runners will be looking for a true fight, but one that gives CSUB some much-deserved hope in that the all-time series has always been relatively tight.
Despite Fresno State holding series lead with Bakersfield's record against the Bulldogs standing at 3-6-1. Neither team has ever put together a streak of more than two games, which only happened once for the Bulldogs in 2011 and 2012. Otherwise, CSUB and Fresno State have traded wins and losses each year they face off.
Bakersfield last took a 2-1 victory in 2019 before 2021 went to Fresno State in a 1-0 foul-filled affair. If one thing is for sure, this should be yet another tough contest between valley rivals looking for bragging rights and local pride.

After coasting to a convincing, 6-0 exhibition victory over Life Pacific last week, the Roadrunners will face tougher tests this week as they close out their preseason schedule.
On Tuesday, Aug. 15, the `Runners will host former fellow Western Athletic Conference member California Baptist for an exhibition
Main Soccer Field, kickoff at 7 p.m. (PT)
The all-time series between the `Runners and Lancers sits tied at 4-4-2 with both of the ties coming in the last two meetings. A year ago, CSUB earned a road tie in Riverside before CBU would go on to a first-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
On Saturday, Aug. 19, the `Runners will travel south for their final exhibition against UCLA.
Los Angeles, 7:30 p.m. (PT) kickoff
The Bruins and the `Runners will be meeting for the first time.
UCLA went 12-7-1 last season on the way to a Sweet Sixteen appearance. The Bruins received votes in the preseason Top 25 poll and recently dropped a 2-1 exhibition clash against Big West member UC Riverside.
