Big West Announces 2023-24 Women's Basketball Schedule

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Big West Conference announced the home-and-away matchups for the 2023-24 women's basketball season, and the Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team is more excited than ever to follow up on last year's stellar postseason tournament performance. Regular season games will be played on Thursdays and Saturdays, but most importantly a new playoff format has been drawn up and approved by the league office, effective this upcoming season. The Big West Championships will now be a tiered playoff, based on regular season positioning, which includes the first and second seeds getting automatic bids to the semifinal round. CSU Bakersfield enters the thirteenth year under head coach Greg McCall after reaching the conference semifinals for the first time since joining the Big West. The `Runners pulled off an improbable and historic playoff run that included a shocking double overtime upset over the No. 1 seeded UC Irvine Anteaters during the quarterfinals.

The `Runners will return all but five players from last year's squad, including leading three-point shooter Sophia Tougas, Big West All-Freshman Team honoree Garrisen Freeman, hard-working guard Shaunae Brown who has recovered from her 2022-23 season-ending injury, and the veteran presence of Bakersfield-native Taylor Caldwell who returns for her graduate season. CSUB will also welcome a host of new faces to the squad, including 6'5 center Cassidy Johnson from Pacific, experienced forward Aryana Dizon from Vermont, Sacramento State guard Jordan Olivares, 6'3 junior college center Jordan Brooks, and one of Maryland's most highly touted high school prospects in 5'10 guard Amourie Porter.
