Three Track & Field Athletes Earn Academic All-District Honors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2023 Academic All-District® teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. Cal State Bakersfield is excited to announce the three Roadrunner track and field/Cross Country student-athletes who earned the distinction on Tuesday.
 
In her first year at CSUB, Helena Valentic posted a 3.67 overall GPA as a graduate student in the Health Care Administration program. The Croatia native made the all-time list in multiple events this year as a Roadrunner. Valentic is second all-time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:13.40), third all-time in the 6,000-meters in Cross Country (22:18.30), sixth all-time in the 3,000-meters (10:19.18), 10th all-time in the 1,500-meters (4:45.85), and 13th all-time in the 5,000-meters (18:17.51). She finished 54th overall at the Big West Cross Country Championships and finished 11th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the conference track and field championship meet.
 
Miranda Miller is back-to-back pole vault champion at the Big West Track and Field Championships. At the 2023 NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, Miller finished 13th overall. In 2023, she finished with nine individual wins in the pole vault. The Manteca, Calif. native currently holds the indoor and outdoor school record for the pole vault. Miller holds a 3.98 GPA as a kinesiology major. This semester, she finished her undergraduate degree with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
 
In her third year as a Roadrunner, junior Julia Stein posted an impressive 3.98 overall GPA as a business administration major Stein ranked first on the team in the 100-meter hurdles and second on the team in the 400-meter hurdles. Her personal best of 14.34 in the 100m hurdles is sixth all-time in program history while her time of 1:01.72 in the 400m hurdles is fourth all-time. She finished seventh overall at the 2023 Big West Championships in the 400m hurdles.

Academic All-District and All-America

Nominated student-athletes must meet the minimum athletic requirements of being a starter or important reserve. Academically, candidates must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA and they must have been at their current institution for at least a year (an exception is made for graduate transfers).

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in the coming weeks.
